No as a Coach and what he did as a Coach reflects back on what type of MAN he is.. You can try to separate the two if you want so you have a leg to stand on but the fact still remains is that past players did not like the Coach Chan Gailey. I am sure some of those did not like the man either. but most don't like the coach.
Haha, oh good God almighty.

Okay WsPJaCkEt, explain to me how his abilities as a coach are directly tied to and/or the same thing as how good a man he is.

Everyone clear some space on your clipboards. This will be a post to hang on to.

Some more evidence that's ineligible for submission:

"That's not up to me. I can only come out and play football, no matter who the coach is. Coach Gailey gave me a chance to come play here, and for that I will always be thankful. He's taught me a lot about the game of football, but also about life, and I owe a lot to him. But, somebody else makes that decision. I just play football." - Tashard Choice

Your telling me that what you do for a living has no reflection on what type a man you are or anyone for that matter? Yeah ok.

He was not a lousy coach but he was never a great coach. There are many more players that have shown their displeasure for the coach then the love for him as a coach. You can chose to ignore 33jacket's talks with past players and I have spoken to more then a few at my tailgate in the AMC lot. I agree I think you should talk to these players. I happen to believe personal converstions have much more credibility or speeches do then anything written in the paper. I am sure once you do that your opinion will change. I know what has been said to me. You can come to the AMC lot and I will be more then happy to introduce you to some of these past players. You can then find out first hand for yourself. Until then you can keep on searching.....

here is another one just to help you with your search for truth.

:laugher: Great explanation, thanks.

I'm not ignoring anything because neither of you has actually said what any of these players have said. I've already said that I'm more than happy to hear it. I'm open to knowing anything about the coach if there's something he did wrong. But you haven't said any of it and you're just throwing around names and these supposedly terrible stories of Gailey's treachery that you refuse to post the details of.

Your constant confusion of the offensive-defensive split with a supposed rift between the players and Chan Gailey leads me to believe that you're desperate to find anything that you can twist to back your opinion.

So why does any of this matter? I don't really care how Chan interacted with players. In fact, I'd be thrilled to find that players are happier now with CPJ. No slight to Chan, but he's gone and I want players to think everything, from coaches, to uniforms, to academic support to fans has all gotten better. Positive thinking goes a long way towards winning football.

Doesn't matter a single bit, and your sentiment is one I agree with - but the apparently-still-kicking movement to depict Chan Gailey as the anti-christ is obnoxious.

I never mentioned a rift did I? I said I never have seen the love that you express. You are confusing me with someone elses post. I have heard more displeasure with him as a coach then pleasure. If you have actually spoken with Gailey, your are going to come away liking the man. I was one of the biggest believers in him for many years. I would ignore the same things that 33J and I are telling you now. I was told to talk to players and my opinions would change. I told them they were idiots. Well guess what I finally did what they were saying. I talked to former players at games and came away with a much different view of what kind of coach he was. Its that simple. Division on a football team is never a good thing. We had two football teams on one side and when that happens its the head coach who is to blame. No matter how much division there was with just the coaches it has to trickle down to players. Sides were chosen and you saw the result. We now have a new coach and the rest his history.

I believe this has now become one of those threads that BeeStorm has asked us to refrain from.

Let me summarize and conclude this thread:

The Jacket - believes Gailey was a good MAN and was well-liked by his players.

WsPJacket and 33 - believe Gailey was not a good MAN and was not liked by his players.

Neither side is going to budge. There's no need for further debate that is going to bring up more anger.

Being in the middle means you just oppose all sides. Fence rider. ;)

Point taken.

As a former player, I'll chime in. I think very highly of Coach Gailey and respect him greatly. He took the team through some trying times, and was a few breaks/bounces/calls away from great accomplishments here. He wasn't perfect as a coach, and would tell you that himself. He would also say that we didn't win as many games as we wanted. The offense/defense riff has been blown WAAAY out of proportion. There was the same thing going on when O'leary was here, but to an even greater extent. As far as Joe Ham goes, it looks as though Gailey actually showed some discernment here to not ask him to be on staff. I hope Joe gets his life back on track, but he didn't need to be on staff with the poor decision making decision making that was obviously still part of his life. Coach Gailey did things the right way as much as he could, and not everyone is going to like you when you do that. Most players respect him, some didn't like him - this is called PERFECTLY NORMAL. You can try to amp up the drama, but that would be called being a drama queen. Let it go and move on with what seems to me to be a new great coach.

i think this is a license to ask all those that WERE NOT PLAYERS to shut the hell up about what they "know" about when Gailey was here, and when O'Leary was here, etc.

you guys DONT know it all, and not even every player is going to have the same opinion.

everyone has their opinions, but dont use that "Fox News" trick and start with "some people say" or "some players say" when you really mean "my opinion is"

good word, 59!
