Trip to Dublin

I went drifting through the capitals of tin. Where men can't walk, or freely talk, and sons turn their fathers in. I stopped outside a church house where the citizens like to sit. They say they want the kingdom, but they don't want God in it.

Stopped into a church
I passed along the way
Well, I got down on my knees
And I pretend to pray
You know the preacher like the cold
He knows I'm gonna stay
California dreaming
On such a winter's day

It was the time of the preacher in the year of '01
Now the lesson is over and the killin's begun

Don't trip, it's a Time Bomb in this bitch
Here it tick tick tick tick (BOOM)
Wait a minute it's on, I tell it like a true mackadelic

The preacher man says it's the end of time
And the Mississippi River she's a goin' dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get mugged if you go down town

this one might come in handy in Ireland:

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting on death row

I want to run
I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls
That hold me inside
I wanna reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name

All the playing's stopped in the playground now, she wants to play with her toys a while. And school's out early and soon we'll be learning, and the lesson today is how to die.

His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come

Jenny said when she was just five years old
There was nothin' happenin' at all
Every time she puts on a radio
There was nothin' goin' down at all,
Not at all

Then one fine mornin', she puts on a New York station
You know she couldn't believe what she heard at all
She started singin' to that fine, fine music
You know her life was saved by Rock 'n' Roll

You'll take my life but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand there's no turning back
The bugle sounds as the charge begins
But on this battlefield no one wins
The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath
As you plunge into a certain death

We fired our guns and the British kept a comin',
There wasn't 'bout as many as there was awhile ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the gulf of Mexico.

I saw your mommy and your mommy's dead
I watched her as she bled
Chewed off toes on her chopped off feet
I took a picture cause I thought it was neat
But the thing I like seeing the best
Was the rodents using her hair as a nest

Do you remember when we used to dance
And incidence arose from circumstance
One thing led to another, we were young
And we would scream together songs unsung

These people around here wear beaten down eyes sunk in smoke dried faces. So resigned to what their fate is. But not us, no never, no not us, no never. We are far too young and clever.

'Cause it was the heat of the moment
Telling me what your heart meant
The heat of the moment shone in your eyes

And now you find yourself in '82
The disco hot-spots hold no charm for you
You can't concern yourself with bigger things
You catch the pearl and ride the dragon's wings

Who can it be knocking on my door?
Go away, dont come round here no more!

Josie's on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I want to say
You know I like my girls a little bit older
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight

Lord takes these guns away from me, because I can't shoot them anymore. A long black cloud is following me, I feel like I'm knocking on heaven's door.
