Turf

The NFL has determined that it minimizes injuries.

I think the turf in the NFL studies is pretty close, if not the same in some instances, to what we have isn't it? Basically it sounds like the NFL is saying most lower body injuries occur on natural grass as opposed to the turf used in various NFL stadiums. I don't think there is only one type of turf in NFL stadiums; but I could be wrong.

Modern turf ain't your daddy's green BDS carpet. It has substrates designed to give rather than grab. Most new stadiums use it now at all levels.

I’m pretty sure we have the type that the NFLPA has been bitching about for causing injuries. I forget what type of filament it is, but I remember looking it up last year when an article about turf injuries came out and they blamed a particular type.

Dang! We just got the stuff not 5 years ago. If there was as study out, could we not have waited? I haven't noted many injuries on our turf, though.

Hey man, that Chinese company that sold it to us had 4 stars on Amazon.

I hate the coconut rug too. But aren't there better places we could be using roughly a million or so dollars (or how the hell ever much this crap cost) right now? Maybe use it on paying down the debt before we take on more debt?

It is a trade off. We are short of funds. On the other hand we cannot afford to lose starters to injury given our lack of depth.

I would have to see a study that shows the delta in "expected blown out knees" on the new turf versus the coconut crap before I could buy into that logic.

The old adage about "if you're in a hole, the first step in getting out is to stop digging" comes to mind here.

Unless we can figure out someone who wants to buy this mess for .50 on the dollar or something, I don't think we can afford to jetison it. We only installed it in June 2020 so it hasn't even been there 3 years.

TStan's incompetence strikes again.

Typically, streets, stadiums, courts, etc, are named for great coaches, players, and administrators. Georgia Tech should honor TStan by naming all of the game day portable toilets outside of BDS as “TStans.”
~”Hang on, let me make a TStan stop before we head to Yellow Jacket Alley.”~

So we are stuck with this field for at least five more years.
