Typical AJC Bias

Mike Knobler's job, isn't it?
Go back to your crotch sniffing board you UGAy peice of garbage! There you can worship who you call the second coming: Stafford (who happens to fancy spooning guys). How is that fat ass doing so far in practice anyway?

I want to thank all of you who have taken time out of your busy schedules to straighten me out on this issue.

Thanks to your sage guidance, I now understand that Matthew Stafford deserves to be promoted by the AJC and Taylor Bennett does not.

In the future, I will strive to accept gratefully any crumbs of promotion that the AJC happens to drop on our players, and to never expect more.

Once again, my sincere gratitude for your generous edification.

Maybe you should take a journalism and reading comprehension class so you can learn how to put things in context.

But your gratitude is appreciated :). I don't know if I'm sage or not, but my mom does tell me I'm one smart boy.

It has been demonstrated that I am incapable of making sound judgments in this area, so please assist me further: Is it your opinion that my taking this "class", as you call it, will in some way help to get Taylor Bennett recognized by the AJC?

Probably. You could take it, get good at it, get a job at the AJC, work your way up to the primary UGA beat writer, then start dropping Bennett's name in articles about Stafford. I think it would work, I'm not sure how much the readers on the UGA side would like you though.

Now, here I am going to have to take issue with you. Please forgive my impertinence. It seems to me that while your plan seems very clever on the surface, that by the time it is fully executed the subject of Taylor Bennett being on the watch list for the Manning Award may be fairly stale news. Or am I missing something? Perhaps your confidence in my abilities exceeds my own.

its pretty much a format decision for the paper that they use all the time

Tech, along with stories 'around the acc' and then seperately UGAy along with stories about the SEC.
This article was in the SECond category. They didnt really mention the new upstart RB at UGA in the article about Deuce and leading the ACC in rushing either.

Well I have complete faith in your abilities...I think you'll finish the class this semester, start out writing little tidbits in the spring semester for the AJC, get wildly popular, and be assigned to cover UGA's preseason by the summer. After Taylor has a monster year this year, he will again by named to the Manning Award list, this time as a senior and even more deserving of attention.

I hate to be repetitive, but I would like to call to your attention once again the article that I linked last week regarding this watch list:

http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070808/SPORTS03/70808012

If you read it carefully, you will note a rather astonishing faux pas by the Louisville Courier-Journal. In the article, BOTH Brian Brohm and Andre Woodson are recognized by the paper as being on the Manning Award watch list.

Keep in mind, that Woodson plays for Kentucky of the SEC and Brohm plays for Louisville of the Big East.

Since I am clearly the "slow kid" in this class, I'm sure I don't even need to note that this paper has actually crossed conference boundaries for the rather bizarre purpose of mentioning the two players from the state of Kentucky.

I'm hoping some of you wise owls will take the time to write to the LCJ and explain to them the error of their ways. I don't think my poor skills could really do the letter justice.

I don't think anyone is trying to say it would be WRONG for the AJC to have mentioned Bennett, we are just saying that it is not wrong that they didn't.

You'll also notice that the article you linked is a general article about the award, including a quote from Archie and no specifics about the two local QBs, whereas the AJC article is one specifically about Stafford. While this does cover more ground, it lacks the personal feel and local relevance of an article written about the local QB. I'm sure UGA fans appreciated the AJC's article more than UL or UK fans appreciated that one. Which brings us back to our original question: why hasn't the Tech beat writer written one about Bennett?

Well, it includes the important specifics of their names. I would classify it as an unbiased article, regardless of the level of detail.

Indeed, hence bias.

My theory: Typical AJC bias.
