He gotten a little bit better passing, but I'll say this, if he runs like last year we might struggle on defense again, BUT if we even get a decent to average amount of pass rush on him it becomes a close game in which we take the lead and the TO runs big chunks off the clock and our D-Line (Morgan and Eguibuwe in particular) can pin their ears back and go after him.

Thoughts?

If we stop Tyrod Taylor, we win. If we let him pass and run all over us, we lose.

If Wommack travelled to Oz to get a brain, he would have one LB dedicated as a spy on TT at all times. Obviously that LB can still play the run, but never let TT run on you or else it will be a long long night

The key is PRESSURE. If we give him 5+ seconds to stand back there, he'll pick us apart. OTOH, if we get heat on him, he'll look closer to Quincy Carter with happy feat.
 
Unfortunately, he can scramble better than Q and is much harder to bring down. I'd pick about 3 times per half to send the house, but otherwise stay in position and do a better job of fighting off blocks (not our long suit). We will also stay fresher this way. Also, I really would like to see Burnett used as a shut down corner and then give who ever is the other corner, Tarrant/Butler, help from the Safety that replaces Burnett.
 
TT and Nesbitt are a lot alike. It might be better for TT to not get flushed out because he's a great runner. Nesbitt is the same way. If either of them gets into a sticky situation, they still find a way to gain 5 or 6 yards.
 
TT and Nesbitt aren't at all alike. TT doesn't like to be hit. Also, he could never carry a team like Nesbitt. VT's defense carries their team. Taylor could never start for QB in our offense because he doesn't like to get hit.

Poor baby had to be protected last year by the refs because the wittle boy got hit in the head. Our kicker has more balls than Tyrod Taylor.

I'll say on thing about TT, when he gets pressured he runs. While I mostly observed this and it might of changed, it was very obvious. No looking past the blitz for open receivers, no rolling out to try and make a pass or throw the ball away. He tucks and runs. If we get pressure and know what he's going to do, even if he's a good scrambler we can get him.

However, like I said, this is what I saw against Alabama, not recently.

true... dat... Last year when I thought of Nesbitt, I thought of injuries and the glory days vs. VT and BC when he ran rampant. This year, I think hits, dives, jukes, and most of all stealing the ball back from FSU... That is going to be his highlight-of-the-season.
 
God only knows how our defense will perform. Let's just hope the offense will continue to perform well and limit the turnovers.
 
I am NOT saying we need to play dirty. I AM saying that we need to make it a top priority to jack this guy up big time. I want him to get hit early, often and hard. I want him to understand that he can't just dance around. I want pressure and pain. We're a tough team. We're tougher than them. I want blood.

What a terrible forum setup. Aside from that, I love how one of the guys mentions we are just being ******... Good thing our QB isn't black or we might be ****** towards him too. Oh wait, that's right, he is and we aren't.

*why is Race + ist censored?
 
I wouldn't be surprised if that's default filtering provided by the vBulletin message board code.

Stupid gobblers. Of all the thoughts they chose to take from this board, they choose a random comment by one of our simpletons? If that's what it takes to get them stirred up, more power to 'em.

On another note, I feel like I jumped in a time warp to 1997 trying to read their Stone Age message board. UVA's Sabre is the same way. Don't know much about technology in the Commonwealth I guess...
 
Let Tyrod beat us. We need to try and stop SOMETHING and that something should be Ryan WIlliams.

We may as well give up on pass defense and pray that Morgan Burnett can do 1 or 2 miraculous things.
 
I'm not worried about getting pressure on Taylor, because I've resigned myself to knowing that we will get none whatsoever. My only hope in this game is that the offense has hit that gear where everyone is operating at peak. Then, we can get a shoot out going. That's my only hope. I don't expect our defense to deliver.
