UCF path to final 4?

Y'all are forgetting they finished 6th last year, and started 20th. Starting 8 spots above this time

This would be good TV / best TV.

Then once both have signed and they are shaking hands, UCF kicks Alabama in the stomach and powerbombs them through the table. UCF reveals to a prone Alabama and the rest of the nation that they had a special clause added to the contract, and that if they win Saban must retire. They then then pose with Alabama's turnover title, before walking away with it.

Saban stalks them in the parking lot of the next Summer Sl-- I mean CFP semifinal and assaults them before the game, then fills their convertible with concrete mix and issues a rematch challenge from hiding over the jumbotron at half time.

I don't think that really changes anything, TBH. CFP doesn't really adhere to that "win and move up, lose and fall" mentality that animates the other polls. My bet is that if they think UF is better than UCF now, that probably won't change. UCF has nobody of substance left to play to prove themselves.

Gotta get themselves into a big boy conference if they want to play for the grand prize. I just don't see any non P5 getting into a 4 team playoff unless they somehow load their OOC schedule with heavyweights (and manage to beat all of them) which isn't realistic. If they expand it to 8, sure, give them a shot.

The most UCF can claim or become is "the best of the rest". They should be happy with it.

26 wins in a row though, that was my point. The body of work is impressive, and they are 5 spots higher to start this year than last year. Finished 6th last year... do the math.

Ucf's natty undermines the current farce that we operate with. We are trying to pretend that the bcs's 2 team playoff and the current 4 team playoff produces a definitive best team and its clearly not true. Without a more clear lath to the playoffs, it's all subjective and ucf should take advantage of it.

I think it has always been a mistake to try to determine a best team. A champion is just the winner of a tournament. Georgia was the SEC champion in 2017, for instance, but wasn't the best team in the SEC, and that's pretty conclusive.

If back to back undefeated seasons are not enough to get in, then we seriously need to consider expanding the playoffs.
This. IMO undefeated teams should be in the playoffs over teams who have lost. If our system doesn't allow that to happen, the system is ööööed up.

True.

And UCF should be "In" now.

The Committee's bull shit about having two $EC teams In ("if the season ended now") that still have to play each other is just more fuckery to ensure that the factory schools stay In / highly rated.

Nothing like that ole quality loss bull shit that the $EC gets from our television masters.
