UGA fans that root for Tech when they're not playing UGA

As much as I hate UGA, I found myself rooting for the hometown boys in the NCAA Baseball World Series. :ugh:

One point that everyone seems to be ignoring is that UGA fans don't take the rivalry as seriously as Tech fans do. We have one rival, UGA. UGA has several! Florida, Tennessee and us. I know a few UGA fans who care much more about beating Tennessee than they do about beating Tech.

Further, we have lost 7 straight to UGA! It's pathetic! Barely a rivalry anymore! When we start beating Georgia consistently :fingersx: I have a feeling that we'll see a change in the UGA fans' attitudes.
Nobody is ignoring it. It's discussed pretty much all the time in this forum.

UGA's biggest rival in their minds is whoever they can't or are not beating at that particular moment. The number of consecutive wins they have against us is irrelevant to how much of a rivalry it is - the record hardly scratches the surface of the rivalry itself.

And of course their attitudes will change. The ones that are actually Georgia fans will suddenly become more difficult to find and the ones who said they liked both will be wearing that Georgia Tech t-shirt they have more often.

Georgia fans are just as dumb and fickle as everyone here makes them out to be.

WHY?

Florida is only a bigger rival to UGA fans, Florida fans care a lot more about beating FSU and USCeast.
Tennessee is only a rival to UGA because UT's rivals (Vandy and UK) suck.

Further, we have lost 7 straight to UGA! It's pathetic! Barely a rivalry anymore! When we start beating Georgia consistently :fingersx: I have a feeling that we'll see a change in the UGA fans' attitudes.

I agree with the last paragraph

This is what I'm asking:

Explain to me how it makes sense to justify pulling for Georgia in anything by saying that Georgia fans take our rivalry less seriously than we do

If you're the kind of fan that doesn't mind pulling for Georgia - fine, more power to you. But you're saying that the reason you pulled for the Cesspool is: "UGA fans don't take the rivalry as seriously as Tech fans do. We have one rival, UGA. UGA has several!"

So conversely, if we were winning every other game against UGAg and they took it more seriously - would you then no longer pull for Georgia in other sports?

The only solace I take in losing to UGA is how much more pissed off those assholes are going to get when we finally beat them.

I guess I didn't explain my position as clearly as I could have. I would never root for UGA's football team. Can't stand 'em.

My roommate is a UGA grad* and was watching the NCAA baseball world series last night and I couldn't help but pull for the local boys. I don't think that makes me a hypocrite. Truth is, I've never attended a college baseball game so I'm not exactly a true fan when it comes to that sport. I only mentioned it because it seemed relevant to the thread. It only applies to baseball. I wouldn't root for UGA football in any game, especially not a bowl game.

When I wrote "UGA fans don't take the rivalry as seriously as Tech fans do. We have one rival, UGA. UGA has several!" it was meant to be an explanation of why I personally know UGA football fans who don't mind -or even pull for- Tech. Because they care much more deeply about beating UF or UT or whomever.

*I have several Tech jerseys and programs on display in the TV room. He isn't permitted to display anything red.

There is no such animal. That is why our fraternity is so sound. Nobody pulls for TECH besides TECH. We are autonomous.

Jacket Pride. Werd.

Then I'm in a different boat. My approach to college athletics is similar to mine for professional sports.

In professional sports, I always, always, always pull for Atlanta teams and if a team is from Atlanta they have my support - even the Dream, as hard a time as I'm having getting into the WNBA.

In college? I pull for Georgia Tech and I despise Georgia. My first love and the thing that I think of when I think "Georgia Tech" is football, but I don't segregate the other college sports. The teams are different, the schools are not - and it's the schools that I love and hate.

And if one more person calls Georgia the "local boys" I'll throw my lunch up.

I co-sign....I dont care if the game is "butt darts", I hope Ugay loses. Although I hear they're pretty good at it.

I understand why people look at it that way and I used to look at it the same way but my mindset has changed. The reason being that in the long run, it's about me wanting us to be better than UGAg as often as possible and for as long as possible. The fewer games they win, the worse they are and the better recruiting gets for us, meaning we get better.

I'm not ever in favor of them doing anything well. If I had my way Georgia would never win another game against anyone again - it wouldn't diminish how much I hate them and it would just get sweeter with time.

What he said!!!!

I was a shy, naive boy in the woods of middle Georgia when I first saw a non-bowl Tech game on TV. Tech beat UT 6-3 on Bunky Henry's two field goals. Later UT hosted UGA on TV also and I rooted hard for the 'dogs and was distraught when they gave up a late TD to UT for a tie. Tech later lost to UGay that year.

At Christmas, my two uncles, both UGA grads (one played basketball there) were ragging me and dissing Tech and I told them to back off that I pulled for UGAy when they weren't playing Tech and my dumber uncle leaned over in my face and says "I don't ever pull for Tech in anything". Right then and there I resolved never to pull for UGAy in ANYTHING again and I haven't.

My son is now in his third year as a student at UGay and he now roots for the dawgs. Each night that UGA played in the CWS I would text him the following,

"How bout them Dawgs, piss on em" or the last two nights just "piss on em". He understands.

WTF! Some of you pull for UGA? That makes me sick. Never pull for UGA. Some of you don't understand TO HELL WITH GEORGIA.

As for UGA's biggest rival, UGA fans pull for UF and UT in bowl games. How many real UGA fans do you think pull for Tech in our bowl games?

By the way, UGA losing last night was awesome. UGA losing can feel just as good as a Tech win.

uga fans don't take the rivalry as serious as we do!?!? Check with ole Jim Donnan on that myth.

Depends on the age/ties to the school. I think the older they get and the stronger ties they have with the school, the more they despise tech.
