UGA recruit trouble?

Oh sweet! I'd been looking for that screenshot.

I heard this is was a fake facebook account, and just done as a joke. But someone w/ more knowledge could fill in.

So they claim that someone made a fake Facebook account, and then DUPED JUSTIN MACLIN into adding him as a friend?

Facebook isn't like myspace. You cant just go around posting crap wherever you want. You have to have made contact with the person before, via email, or they have to be recommended to you via email, and you have to acknowledge them as part of your 'friends' network.

The guy says that he had over 400 friends as well.

Apparently he lost his iPhone and the person who found it happened to be an avid college football fan(avid enough to follow recruiting in the offseason) who

1) knew the kids name and who he was,
2) knew he was going to UGA, and
3) is a fan of one of UGA's rivals
4) used the iPhone's facebook app to post this to another big-time recruit's wall, who this person just happened to know he was friends with, or happened to stumble across his name out of the 400 other friends on there.

Possible? Sure
Plausible? Hardly

While this certainly does fit the ugag mold, I'd be surprised to see it actually escalate to anything. I remember a few years ago that player we were recruiting heavily suddenly picked Clemson, then a few months later that picture with him holding a fat stack of cash didn't lead to anything from what I recall.

The problem is, even if they could link the account to Brown, it's not all that implausible that he was just making the $ stuff up. Just like when a USCw recruit came out and told some folks he got to talk to Reggie Bush on the phone (which was a violation). He later retracted and said he did not get to talk to him. Whether he did or not, and whether Brown did or did not get money, does not matter b/c saying it occurred is not prove that something did occur.
