UGA week off before Tech game

This worries me. UNC had a week to prep for our offense and we saw what happened. Not sure if the extra week had much to do with it or not.

With us having such a different offense than most I think it really hurts us when a team has a week off before they play us. I hate that UGA has two weeks to prepare for us.

yea looked what happened... we had 400 yards of offense. We just couldn't win where it counted, the scoreboard. For all we know it could mess up Georgia, bye weeks are not always good.

UNC beat us, hands down, and I don't want to discount that. But we're pretty beat up ourselves right now, and only having one game between now and the only game that matters should help us out and make us look better then we did on Saturday.

We have 12 days to rest, then a game at home, then 9 more days to rest. What hurt us more than anything is injuries.

Adding to what Beej said, injuries and being tired generally. Almost from the opening kickoff UNC looked like a team with fresh legs and we looked draggy. We simply need some time off. PJ knows it; you notice he told the players not to go to the weight room or do anything related to football for a couple of days.

As a lot of people have said, I don't think an extra week will help Georgia much in preparing for us. Maybe a little, but it won't be much of a factor. Think about how our first team looked after three weeks of practice for the spring game. Their scout team won't simulate our offense well enough to help them a lot.

I do wish that we had an extra week to prepare for them. I have no idea if PJ and the staff have been scouting for this game all year or whether they have been saving a few plays specifically for this game. But I hope they have been doing both!

UGA has looked bad against running QBs this year and I think we will be no different. The extra week off probably helps them, but not too much. Like someone above said, we have some nice rest time as well.

The problem in the UGA game will be their offense. We will need to find a way to slow down their offense, because even though I think we will move the ball pretty well, UGA is definately not a team that I want to get into a shoot out with.

This year the LBs are going to have trouble tackling Knowshon. I don't think Stafford will eat us up throwing the ball, though. They'll probably score in the high 20s, so we better bring some offense.

This worries the heck out of me too. We have made almost every back we've played against look good this year because we can't seem to bring them down cleanly with one person and we aren't getting the pursuit to the ball to hit them with several tacklers. I have no idea why that is, but it's true. Moreno is devilishly hard to get a good hit on. He is wiry strong and has amazing balance. We did a good job containing him last year, but I worry about him this time 'round.

I dont think a week off for uGAY will help them at all. UNC had a week to prepare and we put up BIG numbers and according to CPJ we had a ton of misreads and should have put up a LOT more. UNC was not a slouch defense they were not giving up much prior to last weeks game. besides we match up well against the mutts. they cant stop a mobile qb. and our defensive line will eat up their ****ty o-line. i look for it to be a close and exciting game. somewhere around the lines of the FSU game.

Just curious, but has anyone ever dug up or found any stats on how Navy did against opponents with a previous week off? Those would be telling statistics.

UNC athletes = smarter than UGA athletes. They played our O better than UGAG will.

UGAG will have trouble with our O. GT will have more trouble with UGAG's O. If we can finish drives, we can win the game, but I'm not at all confident that we will. I hate to say it, but I think that UGAG will score at least 31 on us.

I think that we are going to come out and give them a ****storm that they won't be able to fight through. If they score 31, we'll get 32. **** the little bitches.

For the record, here are some stats from Navy's last 5 bowl games. Looks like even when teams have 3+ weeks to prepare it doesn't affect the overall offensive performance too much. Average point differential is only -1 point over all 5 games. For what it's worth.

Year Pts Scored Avg. PPG Difference
2003 14 30.4 -16.4
2004 34 27.8 6.2
2005 51 16.8 16.8
2006 24 28.2 -4.2
2007 32 39.3 -7.3

I wouldn't worry about UGa having an extra week. They are a lot more scared of us than we are of them.

Just more time for 'em to sweat.

Paul Johnson said last week that he hasn't ever tracked that, and doesn't think it has a considerable effect. I think his quote was something like this: (paraphrased)

"Well we've had 7 months to practice it, so if they can beat it in 2 weeks then they deserve to win."

All good points. However, I would rather they only had one week. Less time for players to get healthy, and less time for them to think about GT.

But you never know. It could take them a little bit to get back in the swing of things from not playing at game speed for two weeks.

(1) Gasp! Not an extra week for them to feed off the coaching genius of Willie Martinez!

(2) They can't prepare for the plays and ideas that Coach Johnson has been saving up all year to use on the Bitches. I really think that Coach Johnson is expecting to win.

I think Paul Johnson would take on a steriodal bear with knifes for hands and expect to win.

The only thing the bye week gives UGA is a chance to sit around and think about not playing in the SEC title game.
