ugag LB arrested AGAIN....

I didn't talk badly about Calvin. He (Calvin Johnson) said this weekend he smoked pot while a freshman at GT and implied he did it more than once. He was pointing out that was then and this is now but his quote sounded like someone who had smoked more than once for sure (which I assume would have gotten him kicked off the football team if caught).

Why throw stones at UGAg when ours do the same? It's pretty hypocritical to condemn others but not GT players for doing the same.
I agree---The only difference is the open way their offenders seem to go about it. Drunkeness = 1 game
Civil offense=2 games , minor felony = 2 games plus laps, major felony = leaving early for NFL.

Jake, I'm surprised you didn't also mention Fulmer's discipline, or lack thereof, at UT. A couple years ago, espn.com did a big article on UT's players and the little punishment given for various offenses. This is just one of the examples, but apparently one player hit somebody so hard in a bar fight that that person needed reconstructive surgery and I'm pretty sure that player only Bowden's running the stairs routine.

Speaking of Bowden, he's in a class by himself at FSU. To be fair though, he has not had the luxury the past few years of scheduling a no-name opponent as the first game, with Miami opening up each season.

With respect to UGA, I'll give Richt some credit. Although I would love to say UGA is full of outlaws, they really don't commit any more crime than the average University at their competive level. When a crime is committed, Richt is consistent about suspending them in the first game of the season, including against Clemson in 2003. He's much better than Donnan, who did do some of the "delayed suspensions" which Jake referenced at UF.

Let's just say that on every team the better players always get more than 3 strikes.

Well, as many of you know, there is an award given every year appropriately called the "Fulmer Cup" for negative off the field transgressions involving football players. It was put together by the folks at everdayshouldbesaturday.com. The point system and current rankings for the Fulmer Cup can be found here:

I didn't think Fulmer needed to be mentioned as it's common knoweledge. But Meyer is considered a saint. It should be noted that these recent several issues involving UF football players are players that were signed by Zook, who is now at Illinois. Illinois is currently #2 in 2007 Fulmer Cup Standings. In Zook's defense, he didn't recruit the thugs at Illinois, but it is poetic justice for Channing Crowder and the numerous other problem children he signed.

As for Donnan, I know a player that was recruited and was a red shirt for 1 season with Donnan. He said that Donnan ignored too much dirt and turned a blind eye from thug activity. Case in point, Quincy Carter. Donnan and staff could have played a key part in turning Quincy's life around off the field, but they didn't and now look where he's at. You can't tell me they did have an idea of what he was up to. It's not that they could've saved him, but at least they could've tried. Player discipline was a large part of what got Donnan fired. That and losing to GT, UT, UF, and 2 other teams every year.

Of course I'm biased, but I think Richt handles discipline and punishment well. For example, underaged drinking is a 2 game suspension for the 1st offense and 4 games for the second. Not too many coaches are willing to teach a kid a lesson with the chance they may lose a game with them out.

I've met him a handful of times and if he's not genuine, he's a darn good actor. I appreciate his Christianity and his desire to vocalize and lead with his Faith.

I haven't met Coach Gailey, but he a Richt are similar men to me. Gailey seems to be a class act and an excellent leader of young men. That's why I'm still puzzled about how Gailey tolerated his QB constantly jawing with the opponent's defense?

Ah...glad to know we don't live in a glass house. ;)

Calvin Johnson admits to pot smoking while at GT and how can we forget this guy..

A former Georgia Tech football star was sentenced to nine months probation on felony drug charges connected to a marijuana-distribution ring.

Reuben Houston, 23, was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court to charges of conspiracy and attempt to distribute 92 pounds of marijuana. He pleaded guilty to the charges after his June arrest.

92 pounds???!!! ..and here we are talking about a guy at Ugag who had a beer or two at college like none of us ever did that. I know I did, but all this pot talk seems to trump that.

Like I said, glad to know our house is made of brick and not glass.

if this guy was drinking in his room this would REALLY be a non-issue, but getting rowdy w/ a bouncer when you are underage and on probation is significant IMO. It goes to state of mind.

I drank in college and I am sure most GT players were imbibing on the same night but I hope they were not getting rowdy w/ a bouncer (I know when I was breaking the law I kept a low profile).

It's likely that Richt won't have to punish Hebron for this second offense. University rules will have him suspend for the remainder the current semester and the upcoming Fall semester. At the earliest, Hebron will not be eligible to participate in football at UGA until the Fall of 2008 for his 2 underage drinking violations.

So, are you implying that you only drank in your room at college? That sounds fun.
