You're right - if you're talking about each game individually. But the cumulative effect of playing a full competitive schedule did hurt us in most of those years.

I guess it just depends on how we want to build the fanbase - tougher schedules for those who buy tickets for the now or easier schedules which should result in better records (avg wins should increase by 1-2 per year getting us closer to averaging 9-10 wins). Average attendance may suffer but we'd likely get another home game per season so revenue wouldn't take a hit.

Pocatello, ID --- Idaho State University has faced the likes of national title contenders in Boise State and Oklahoma in John Zamberlin's three years at the helm of ISU football, and now his charges will face a really big dog, er, Dawg, as the Bengals have announced in conjunction with the University of Georgia that the team teams will meet on November 6 of 2010.
By adding that game, Idaho State will not play Cal Poly in 2010, and the Bengals and Athletic Director Jeff Tingey will either pay the forfeiture penalty or line up a game for Cal Poly with another school, as Tingey did this year with Cal Poly when worked it out so that Weber State could play Cal Poly.
Along with Georgia, the Bengals will also play WAC member Utah State on September 11 in the second game of the season after opening the season with Montana-Western. ISU was scheduled to open the 2009 season with Montana-Western, but the NCAA would not grant ISU the waiver needed to play a week early, although it was granted for several other schools, including Indiana State.
Georgia is the second SEC school that ISU will have faced in the previous six seasons, as the Bengals lost to Kentucky 42-29 in 2005, a game ISU led 29-28 with 5:14 to go. Interestingly enough, Georgia last week kicked a late field goal to beat Arizona State in Athens. The Bengals and ASU played earlier this year, with the Sun Devils winning 50-3.
Georgia in the last three seasons has played Georgia Southern (2007), Western Carolina (2006), and Western Kentucky (2005), and they play Tennessee Tech this season. The Dawgs are currently ranked #18 in the FBS, and sit at 3-1 with a game against #4 LSU this week. Georgia plays in 92, 746-seat Sanford Stadium, and that game should break the Idaho State and Big Sky record for largest crowd to watch a Big Sky or ISU team in action, set three weeks ago when 84,749 fans watched the Oklahoma-Idaho State game.
"Certainly it will be a daunting task, but playing the University of Georgia will allow us to extend our University footprint to the eastern United States," said Director of Athletics Jeff Tingey. "We look forward to the opportunity to play in another storied college football venue."
Idaho State originally was to play Eastern Washington on November 6, but the Eagles agreed to move their game with ISU in 2010 and ISU will be moving the game with Eastern in Pocatello in 2011 so the Eagles can also play an FBS team. The Bengals will receive $525,000 for playing Georgia, after receiving $500,000 last year for their game with the Oklahoma Sooners. Idaho State will receive $200,000 from Utah State, plus ISU will have an allotment of 1,000 tickets to sell for that game, with those proceeds going to Idaho State.
ISU's game at Utah State is a renewal of a series that last was played in 2002 as the last of a three-game contract. From 2000-02, the games with the two schools were extremely close and entertaining. In 2000, ISU won in frigid temperatures 27-24 to give the Bengals a 6-5 season, and deny Utah State a winning season. The next year ISU led 27-0 in the third quarter and lost 28-27, and then ISU trailed in 2002 28-0 but came nearly all the way back, having a Hail Mary batted away in the end zone in a 38-33 barnburner. That game was one of the first college football games ever broadcast in HD, as it was shown live on HDNet on Dish Network.
"I am pleased with the opportunity to compete against Utah State," said Tingey. "With Utah State being so close in proximity, they become a natural opponent and rival. I look forward to this potential rivalry for years to come."
Tingey also added, "I am also very excited to open the season next year with a home game facing off with Montana-Western. Not only is it important and beneficial for our team, but it is also important for our community."
Idaho State, along with Montana-Western, has home contests in 2010 with Northern Arizona, Weber State, Montana State, and Sacramento State. The teams' bye week falls between the Weber State and Montana State games on October 23.
Idaho State's road conference games are September 18 at Northern Colorado, October 2 at Portland State, October 9 at Montana, and November 20 at Eastern Washington to finish the regular season.
