Yes, still think the defense has problems. But Miami also put up the same or more total yards on their 4 previous opponents including Texas A&M. And was averaging >40 points

This, the defense got better than it was but still not really above average, but nice to seem them switch from dog öööö to average-ish.

My theory is that the officials were really annoyed that they were running plays into the line when everybody could have gone home without too much more fuss, but if da u wanted to keep playing, they in effect said: ok, well let you - the play stands
