Stansbury mentioned on his show this week that Mercedes-Benz will be in the soccer configuration (upper deck curtained off) for the UNC game. That’s kind of a buzzkill - I wonder what the capacity in that configuration is and how it compares with BDS. Will we make any money out of the deal this year?

Got the email today pushing 3 pack tickets. One game had to be UNC. Tells me sales aren't very good which is going to be a little embarrassing. Sort of like playing in the Detroit Bowl or something......

As non-snarkily as I can possibly ask this, what was the logic behind playing a GT-UNC football game at Mercedes Benz?

"What if we moved the venue for this ho-hum college matchup a mile down the street to a building with a weaker atmosphere that is in a worse location?"

Outside of NCST when they are decent to good, people in Carolina don’t give a öööö about college football. We may as well be playing BC in this game.

The logic was $$$. In the press release announcing the scheduling at MBS, it said “GT would get a significant revenue lift”. There were a whole lot of other reason chunked out there, but $$$ was the main one.

I think we’re unwilling to move the U[sic]GA game (fair enough), and UNC (with their unwarranted preseason hype) is the next most attractive home game this year. The Falcons’ schedule might also be a factor to work around.

Notre Dame last year would have been a good money maker; UNC is less encouraging.

They offered an upgrade to club seats for $150 a pop. There were LOTS of midfield seats still available. This was a few months ago but I can't imagine folks paying $200+ for a GT vs UNC game. The plan was always to curtain off the upper deck. It's actually a really good environment if the lower 2 levels are full.

Worse that upper north at Bobby Dodd?

Cause that’s hard to believe.
I will fight you.

You can't see the stupid video board that MB has installed in the glory hole from the upper deck - there is a reason teams don't design such dumbass video boards. Also, the sound is absolutely horrible up there. Can't here the announcers well due to the design of the roof that echos sound to the point you can't hear it. Also, the entrance and exit points in the corners are pinched so you can only fit about 10 wide through. Couple that with the placement of concession stands and nobody moves anywhere. During our game with UT, folks were having to enter the portal and walk across rows to get to their seats since no progress could be made in the actual walk areas. Terrible, terrible design. 15-20 years from now, when they blow MB stadium up finally, nobody will miss that ööööhole.
The Georgia Dome, despite appearing bland, had a much better layout and was easier to navigate to your seats. MB stadium was built to maximize luxury box $$$.

Yeah, M-B is an ugly monstrosity from the outside, and is already looking ragged outside. They‘ve improved the flow inside since the UT game (couldn’t be any worse), but I’m still not enthusiastic about going to another game there.

The sound is awful everywhere in the stadium. The video board is dumb. The upper end zone seats were OK for the Atlanta United game I went to - I neither know nor care about soccer, but it seemed like a decent view of the field.
