UNC game time

And as evidence of the increase in spread and depth of the prostitution, it was so many years ago that ugag gave the collective TV world the middle finger and said they weren't playing at any time that inconvenienced their fan base (read So. Ga. rednecks)

I really wish that we would get home games that kick later than 1 pm. Since CPJ arrived at Tech we've played 57% of our Saturday home games with kicks prior to 1:30 pm.

Additionally, 9/63 home games were on Thursday night.

Some quick data:

Total Home Games: 63
Thursday Home Games: 9 (all kicks at 7:30 pm)
Saturday Home Games: 54
Games kicked between 12:00-1:30: 31 (57.4%)
Games kicked between 3:00-4:00: 16 (29.6%)
Games kicked between 6:00-8:00: 7 (12.9%)

Early slot kicks per year (#/%)

2008: 2/40%
2009: 2/40%
2010: 4/67%
2011: 4/80%
2012: 1/14%
2013: 4/67%
2014: 4/67%
2015: 2/40%
2016: 5/83%
2017*: 3/100%

*only includes games with announced kick off times

That seems like it took a long time to research...? Also, I'm surprised we haven't had more nooners. Seems like its about 80% of games.

I wouldn't care what time they played the games, if only they would announce game times months in advance.

Do schools REALLY want to encourage and even facilitate longer tailgates or no?

Wouldn't they honestly rather we all just showed up right before the game, bought some merch and concessions at the game and then left immediately?

I see your point. But tailgating is part of fan experience. What I really think the kick off time helps with is fan attendance

yeah, but, what's our record against the spread for different kickoff times? :)

The good news is that the high for Sep 30th is projected to be about 76 F, so maybe it won't be blistering hot. Gonna be a hot one this Saturday though.

It's a game between 2 teams whose combined records are 2-3, a noon game is fitting. Maybe if we had another win we'd get a better time slot.

On the bright side it is on ESPN2 rather than the lost toys network.

Probably get some female commentator.

Is the hurricane going to hit about then? If so, UNC will cancel. UCF/UNC, what's the difference?

I think everyone is in full agreement with that. The attendance is absolutely bolstered by the ability to sit around on campus and grill up some food, drink a few beers and socialize with your fellow GT fans.

So the only logical conclusion is that tv exposure is more important to the machine than the loyal, mostly local fan base (shocker). And if it so happens that the schools liability and clean-up bill is also lessened by having it at noon, hooray for the school. Every year we hear more about how places are struggling to fill seats amid rising costs for tickets and concessions faced off against better and better home viewing experiences. If I wasn't such a rabid fan, I would maybe go to 1 nooner a year and would damn sure not sign myself up for the time slot lotto for 6 games a year when the track record says 3+ of those are almost guaranteed noon kicks.

What would be interesting is to look at the rest of the conference's home start times over the same span as the above.

In the end we just are not perennially good enough to get better game times and I am butthurt about it.

Who do we want to win the Duke vs UNC game? I hate them both but feel like Duke losing would benefit us more.

I'll go with UNC beating Duke, but it's probably a wash.

Duke has FSU upcoming.
UNC already lost to Louisville.

Duke also plays Wake.
UNC also plays NC State.

We want Duke to win and beat UNC up while doing it.

Near the end of the season, we need Duke to get cut blocked and beaten up by Army and hobble the next week into our game for a beating.

Then, since they scheduled Army to tune up for us, I hope Wake motorboats them the week following our game.

If UNC can manage to give Cutcliffe the AIDS-Cancer-ALS-Hunington's Disease virus that would be excellent, too.
