UNC is up to 8 in the AP poll?

UNC is one of those schools like Texas that the voters consistently overhype. Its almost like the voters confuse the football team with the basketball team when they're making their weekly rankings.

They get some pretty good players just by being the major state school in a talent-rich region. But the average UNC fan will forego watching a UNC bowl game if it overlaps with an early season basketball game.

Not sure how voters always overhype them if they’ve only been ranked in 5 of the past 20 seasons.

Going back to the middle of the CPJ era, at least, they've been a perennial pick to finish in the top 2 or 3 of the Coastal and seldom actually accomplish anything. The predictions never align with the performance on the field. Maybe Mack's got them living up to their potential more than in the past, but I still have a hard time taking them seriously.

The coastal is a log jam of mediocre suck. You could say pretty much entire league is a “perennial top 3” media pick that never accomplishes anything

Sorry if you’re a Carolina fan, but in 15 years of the Coastal, they’ve won it one time (2015) and tied for first but got disqualified for cheating once (2012). Their average finish in the coastal over those years (including the year they were disqualified) is 3.8. It’s hard to reconcile the respect they get from sports writers with their demonstrated on-field performance.
