UNC Loses senior offensive lineman

Not taking anything away from Gardner, but solely based on the fact that everyone was learning a new offense, his absence really didn't hurt us all that much.

That makes us a decided underdog now. We always stink against teams that aren't playing at full strength.

This game out of the Clemson, Miami, UNC stretch is the game that scares me most. I keep having horrible recollections of last years debacle.

Gailey isn't here anymore, dude. Go ahead and ditch that mentality. Let it go.

It's been this way for 40 years following the Jackets. Our guys have lots to do in life and we tend to run thin in depth. Any little negative motivation kills us.

But I am very hopeful that of all coaches, PJ will help us get past this mentality.

And I was just kidding anyway, since everyone is losing players at this stage. It's the ones right before we play the game that kills us.

Nah, Miami game is scariest. At their place and they get an extra 5/6 days before....

Doesn't that scenario sound kinda familiar for GT and Miami....

I'm worried about Miami's offense, now that Patrick Nix is no longer there. I don't think their defense will be able to effectively stop a Paul Johnson run offense. I have a feeling that this game will turn into a shoot out.

Why? Their QB play sucks and our secondary is awesome.

Yeah, now we're a decided underdog when CPJ doesn't have some sort of a grudge against the opposing/team coach.

Gardner-Webb?

Heck...I have been attending GT football games since 1971 across 8 head coaches...and every year we underwhelm at least one game against a lesser opponent. My personal favorite was losing to Wake Forest (who stunk then) in the late 90's with a certain Orange Bowl appearance awaiting us...arrgh. That one still hurts.

In reality...all teams except the national champion lose at least one game that they should not each year.

Even Florida lost to Ole Miss in the Swamp last year. Miss was good but nowhere near Florida good. I think it's just a matter that these are 18 to 22 year olds.

I can't wait to see Tarrant, Taylor and Morgan Burnett on the field at the same time! Thats going to be some speed and athleticism along with length.

As long as T.J., Morgan, Hall and the rest of the DL step up and the LB corp stays healthy i'm thinking we'll be good on that side of the ball. I REALLY want to see barnes.

whos the other on the DL, Anderson?

Ben Anderson was the starting 1-Technique DT and Jason Peters was moved from DE (where he was nearly as highly rated as Derick Morgan coming out of HS) to the starting 3-Technique DT position in the spring.

To the OP, I'm thinking UNC is gonna take a step back on Offense next year. Who is a threat, who is a playmaker? They scored 27 pts/gm last year, I believe, I just don't see them matching that this year. Probably more like 24 this year.

I concur with your doubts over UNC's offense. Not only are they rebuilding their receiver group but their backfield doesn't bring much to the table. Sure they are returning a two-deep but since both are upperclassman its not like they are going to improve by leaps and bounds. I feel their QB situation is extremely shaky. They have a somewhat decent starter but he gets injured often (missed the about half of last season from leg injury and hurt his wrist at the end of spring practice playing frisbee!) and the guy who filled in for him last year has transfered (it was their 3rd stringer but thats cause their 2nd stringer did about as well as Booker did in our offense).

So they have a fragile QB with little behind him, a mediocre backfield, an OL that has lost about 3 or 4 people (not certain of my source info so...), and their returning leader in receiving yards is a fullback.

And College Football News thinks they'll be the best team in the ACC....

We sure could have used him against LSwho. You should never take anything away from NFL talent blocking NFL talent. The guy knows how pass protect.
