Too strong a word? I think not... we need a big win, and the coaches/players know it.

We lost to arguably the best team in our division (or the conference) and it may come back to haunt us again...

For the CPJ critics who are starting to come out, cut it out. The man is 118-44. He can do it. It's been a rough start versus two opponents who we've been building streaks and embarrassing wins against for multiple years now, but THIS is the game. We want revenge, the players know they've been doing sh**ty jobs at assignment football, both offense and defense. They'll come out hot on Saturday, I'm sure of it.

Keep in mind that when Florida lost to Ole Miss 4 games into the season, it was over. No more Florida NC talk, until it happened. VT lost to Miami, FSU, and BC in four weeks. They sucked, and still got the conference championship.

I'm not saying we're gonna go 11-1, but just that the same team that comes out crappy isn't always the same team throughout the season. The team that last year lost at home to UVA and blown out by UNC and LSU also broke streaks against UGA and FSU, and embarrassed MSU and Miami. It was amazing football vs. terrible football, all the same team.

So suck it up and dab it dry, boys. I know the players and coaches are going to. Til then, I'll go ahead and call it even at the risk of a "GTCU17 was wrong" thread.

UNC will get... "beaten badly"... if not destroyed on Saturday!

I don't know if it'll be a blowout, but I definitely think we'll win. I think the coaches know what they have to do. CPJ is going back to basics on run blocking. Wommack definitely knows that he will be fired if the defense doesn't get pressure on QBs.

If you look at the matchups, their D figures to have a field day against our putrid o-line blocking and the "ole" technique that some of our a-backs use for blocking.

Then again, I have trust in CPJ that we won't look as bad as we did against Miami two games in a row. Figures to be low scoring. Need our D to show up.

I've got faith in the man. This Saturday is important. Nevertheless, I'm gonna hold back on the trash-talking a bit and just go to the game with my head held high... whether or not it stays that way remains to be seen...

Sigh..
Our defense line just got thinner and we were not getting pressure in the first place. I think T.J. Yates could pick us apart. Aside from that I think the offense will perform much better, if were getting back to basics, but we might have to score a lot to win.

Before the season many had the feeling we would beat a good team soundly, early in the year. I agreed with that thought. I don't know if you can call UNC a solid team yet, but this would be the perfect opportunity to get back in the win column in a big, big way.

Both offense and defense have been heavily underutilized. Not that we'll have a shut-down D or we won't miss any blocks against UNC, but both CPJ and Wommack said we gave Miami a lot of gifts through unforced errors. Just missed assignments, even on defense, helped Miami a lot. Not to mention 50 free yards through 10 false start penalties.

The team just wasn't all there against Miami. Maybe it was the weird Thursday to Thursday schedule. Sure, it's the same on the calender, but it doesn't have the same rhythm football players learn from high school onwards. Plus there's traveling to Miami on a Thursday. And maybe there's some smoking pot. But, whatever it was, everybody just looked pretty loopy on Thursday, like something wasn't right.

All that to say I think we'll look a lot better this Saturday after focusing on basics and getting in a natural rhythm for game preparation. We may not blow UNC out, we may not even win, but I think our running game will look a good bit more like we expect our running game to look like and defense won't look as putrid. Now, I don't think we have the athletes to really have a shutdown defense, but we won't look nearly as bad and we'll make UNC earn it more. Plus, UNC just isn't as good offensively as Miami.

I can't see this being a blowout. It should be a close, hard-fought win, but it won't be a blowout. Then again, who really knows what to expect from this team right now?

This game is the poster child for the term "pivotal game." If we win, everyone will be back on the bandwagon. If we lose, people will be trampled trying to get off the bandwagon. Like gsu said, we have no excuse this time. We have 9 days to prepare. Two more days than UNC. We have to win this one. I expect that we will.

I feel the same way --we really need a win here and I'm a believer in our head coach. 31-0, 28-7, 45-42, 6-3 --doesn't matter.

I don't see how we're going to destroy UNC when our defense has only forced 2 punts and 0 turnovers in our last 6 quarters of football.

Hey Yuke,

Quit being so NEGATIVE!!!

I have been watching Tech since 1961. At no time, did I have as much confidence in a coach as I do Paul Johnson. The triple option is tailor made for Georgia Tech with its academic restrictions and so forth. The state of Georgia is producing far more Division 1 football players than even just 15 years ago. Tech can get its share and then some. The problem for this year remains both lines. The blocking must get better. Pressure on the opposing quarterback is an absolute must. I am afraid that on the offensive side the problem is not one of technique or coaching, it is probably more a lack of size and talent than anything else. Nonetheless, there is a lot more football to be played and I anticipate steady improvement on both sides of the ball.

UNC will not go down easy, but I really believe our offense is going to click this week. The coaches will make some adjustments and UNC is going to underestimate the power of the TO. They got very lucky last year with turnovers and will not get that gift again this year. The ramblin wreck will roll with some major offensive numbers. It's going to be close because our defense still has a way to go, but I see a 42-31 kind of game.

I'm thinking we're going to get ahead early and not let up. I'm expecting to see a swagger and killer instinct in our guys on the field. I'm very sure we are focused now enough to refine our offensive play.

We win by 2-3 touchdowns.

I look forward to seeing how good Paul Johnson is at rallying the troops in a time of trial like this.
