Uniforms..

Unless the rules have changed, the visiting team can still choose to wear white on the road.

I don't know if the rules now are different than the rules then, but when Rice came to play Tech in the, ermm, 70s(?) they brought white jerseys, didn't bring colored jerseys, and we made them wear our practice jerseys because we were going to wear white no matter what.

So I'm not so sure the rules give the away team first preference for jersey color.

The rules have changed, I think sometime in the 80's. The home team is supposed to wear their 'dark' color. If they want to wear white then they need to get permission from the visiting team, not the other way around.

Wouldn't that make it hard for us to wear white at home then? so how are we able to do it now?

I believe most teams prefer to wear their dark jerseys so it's usually not an issue. However, I believe WF opted to wear their white jerseys when they came to BDS@HGF because it was hot and they didn't want to wear black, and we had to wear gold.

Yeah, that was the year we hung 63(?) on 'em. BC also made us wear dark jerseys in '98 for the home opener (good call on their part.....might be the hottest game at BDS I've ever attended....actually left early due to fear for my 4-yr-old's health in the lower east). Their OL pushed us up and down the field all day and Mike Cloud had 200+.

We (and LSU) are grandfathered into the NCAA's rules about home teams wearing dark jerseys at home. We have the option of notifying visiting teams of our intent of wearing white at home unless the visiting team objects AND notifies us of their intent to wear their road whites by some pre-season date (not sure the specific date/day before season begins.......Eq Mgr Tom Conner could tell you, though)

I remember those games well. I had to do lots of pushups for the WF game and the BC game was definitely the hottest game ever. I drank 2 32 oz gatorades before the game even started to stay hydrated.

Back to the original topic, I love our white uniforms. It just gets a little boring wearing them every game, home and away. I'm hoping we will wear the throwbacks and/or blue on occasion to mix things up. Maybe 2 times per year

I'm under the impression we'd be wearing colored uniforms away. Can anyone confirm this?

So did we ever establish if we are using the same Russell design from the past several years or are we getting the new designs that were on The Machine's website awhile back?

No. No other team in their right minds will wear their away jerseys at home for the sake of letting us wear gold jerseys in their house. It'll basically be white jerseys for every game, with special exceptions being when the team wants to wear gold or blue.

I would imagine that we're going to have new uniforms this year. Pure speculation, though.

Unless it's at LSU, then no. No other team would even have the option of letting us (NCAA rule).

I've been really confused by this since the whole uniform discussion started months ago, so I went and found the actual NCAA rule[1] for it.

"Contrasting Colors
ARTICLE 3. a. Players of opposing teams shall wear jerseys of contrasting colors, and the visiting team shall wear white jerseys. White jerseys may be worn by the home team when the teams have agreed before the season. Players of a team shall wear jerseys of the same color and design."

So it looks like the away team has the prerogative here. If figure the big deal is playing during the day in white could be an advantage, so if we wanted to wear blue/navy/whateverthehell on the road we shouldn't have any trouble. I hope we've already cleared it with our home opponents though.

Wow, so we *are* going to be white for all games, huh?

That's pretty interesting. Don't think I've ever heard of that before.

It was that way for years. At least from 1998 until 2004. We wore Gold either when we had to or for a special occasion, but other than that it was more whites than the Mayflower.
