Historically, the "home" jersey was the schools primary dark color, and the visitor wore a lighter color, or white, for the contrast. GT always presented a little snag to this rule, because one of our primary colors was white. George O'leary liked to wear white (as did Dodd) as much as possible, especially early in the season. (this was prior to "climatec" and "coolmax" synthetic fabrics we have today. Jerseys had a lot more cotton in them then) Anyway, because of rule, the home team had to request from the visitor to allow them to wear white as the home team. Usually, visitors would comply because they got to wear their "home" jerseys on the road. There was a rule change around 2009 IIRC to allow more flexibility, but if the teams can't come to an agreement on uniform color at a given contest, then the visiting team basically has veto power to wear white.I'm pretty sure the home team gets first choice (typically other schools choose to wear a color). We have to ask the visiting team to allow us to wear white for some reason.
