Unis for Thursday night

With UVA in their normal road unis, white shirts, and pants, there will be a lot of white on that field Thursday.

Well we used to always wear white as our home jersey. Rice came to play once, and only brought their white jersies, and we refused to switch to gold and gave them our black practice jersies instead.

I tend to agree. I think if we wore black for one game that it'd be pretty swank.

I was at that game and remember that we rounded up some blue jerseys locally whcih did not match their blue pants at all. They looked ridiculous.

I was at that game

Then you know the answer to the age old question: What comes out of a chinaman's ass?

(I work with some old farts who were at that game, and like telling the story)

Would this have been the early '60s game or the tie in '72? I was not around for the first one and did not see the other.

60's

I'm not sold on the Thursday Night Jerseys...I'll have to wait and see. I worry it looks a little too much like Cheddar Cheese to me.

I don't like the white helmets at all!! I think they look horrible and I'd never recommed we go to those full time!

Stay away from everything BLACK. Do we really want to look like Wake Forrest or Vandy or Army?

We need gold helmets and navy jerseys for home!!!! It's the only way to go.

Well carson, as you can see, you appear to be in the minority on this. The Old Gold color is Tech's true color by the way, not the Vegas Gold O'Leary put us in. In fact, our pants aren't the true Tech gold anymore either when we're wearing white jerseys.

I don't think you will see us going to the white helmets as our standard, but as an occasional special color scheme I think it's great. It's what I always see when I think of Kim King.

Yes that was Rice, but I don't remember their unis being bizarre looking in that '72 tie game we won.

The first time I was made aware of this line was during my first reading of Jim Bouton's ageless classic "Ball Four".
For those who have not read it, being a 1969 Seattle Pilot fan has nothing to do with its legendary appeal.

Thanks Beej. It is time for a reread.

I thought the uniforms last night were sharp. I like the idea of mixing it up no more than a couple of times per season at home with throwbacks or alternate colors and hope they do this more in the future. They could do this every Thursday night and homecoming, which would seem to work well since our fans will get to see them at home.

So, when do we have a game featuring the 1990 uniforms?

Bingo, Thunder. Those are the ones I want to see as well. 1990's gold hlmet, blue shirts, and whiote pants would look great!

The unis just had sharp appeal. You noticed. They grabbed your attention. It was a football team.

The gold was definitely not cheddar it WAS old gold for once. Navy might look good w/ old gold.

The current home unis are in a word - drab. Still our Jackets but in a drab uniform composed of vague colors. Why do we keep doing this to ourselves?

Gnats, I agree with the rest of your post, but this part is just not true!!

Clashing metallic gold headgear and beige jerseys is not drab, it is tacky and looks like we can't afford a real uniform.
I have never understood why smart men and women of Tech cannot figure this out. Image is important.

I love Tech's Gold hats, but if we just can't wear white or Navy shirts I vote to make last night's uniform our home colors.

I couldn't agree more. The gold on gold is horrible. People say the navy looks like notre dame or michigan or whatever...well the gold on gold looks like cheap high school unis in which the jersey's had been 'donated'

Thursday night's uniforms were great too. Either old gold with white hats or navy jersey's with white hats.

I still don't get this assumption by some people that our gold and white is somehow unique. I hate to tell you, but when people think gold and white, they don't think GT unless they're from GA or maybe the ACC. Notre Dame, BC. Navy, Army, Central Florida, Purdue, Vandy, Colorado - off the top of my head all those teams wear gold and white. What's unique to Tech is the GT logo, not our colors.

For those who think we look like ND if we wear blue jerseys, we look like all those other teams when we wear white. When we don't look like anyone else is when we wore the throwbacks Thursday night or when we wear blue jerseys with white pants and gold helmets, ala the National Champion team.

I liked the look against UVA. It would be cool to be the only team with home and road helmets. We could see the traditional look on the road and what we saw Thursday at home. I don't hate our usual home "lemon yellows" but they are just not true to "old gold and white" being our colors. I liked the way we played in the white pants, blue jerseys, and gold helmets in '90. I hated the way it looked. We are white and gold with blue used for trim. Blue should not be a main color.
