Stolen from the Hive...

Scout.com no longer lists Jonathan Davis as a commit to USCe. Furthermore, from the AJC:

You’ve heard of football prospects de-committing from colleges? Well, what about colleges de-committing from prospects?

That may have been the case with Tucker’s Jonathan Davis. He committed to South Carolina, but South Carolina has withdrawn its scholarship offer, according to GoGamecocks.

If true, it is the most disheartening thing that can happen in recruiting.

“I really don’t know why, they just called and broke it off,” Davis told the website. “They called my coach today. I haven’t talked to any USC coaches.”

“I really don’t know what to think about it. I was committed to those guys and that’s all I was thinking about. They told my coach there were looking for more cornerbacks because they had more safeties come in and they were focusing on cornerbacks.”

The 5-foot-7, 205-pound Davis told the website he has no other options at the current time. Georgia Tech desperately wanted Davis and offered a scholarship earlier this fall, but moved on after Davis said he needed more time to check out his options.

How rare is something like this? I haven't heard of him doing anything in particular like getting in trouble that would affect his eligibility, is it a grade thing?

As for that bolded comment about Tech, seems like a bit of an exaggeration, no?

I heard grades were an issue, but I can't find a source. If so, he would not be a good fit for Tech.

The word on the Hive is that they had some staff changes at USCe and changed their minds on him.

If we are going to reference the Hive, the insiders
say there were issues much more concerning than
grades. USCe woke up & realized this. No idea what
they could have been talking about but sounds like
it was best to move on.

The Gamecocks dropped him for the same reasons GT stopped recruiting him.

correct.

We will not recruit him...and SC, GT, others dropped him for a reason other than grades or scholarship numbers limits.

Not from the insiders.

I'm sure Da 'U would take him. Hell, they took Willie Williams.

Williams was a criminal. It seems that Davis' problems are simply the grades, so it doesn't seem fair to lump him in with the likes of Willie Williams.

Judging by the full spectrum of reasons, it seems that few, if anyone, knows what the real reason is - personally, I think it should be left that way. No matter what the reason, if USCe also dropped him, it makes me think that Tech did the right thing by ceasing to recruit him.

Does a high school kid's private life really need to be public domain? What possible good could come from bringing this all to light?

Just a guess, but I think B.H. PufNStuf thinks that Hiveredtech doesn't really know the real reason, and thus is calling him out on it without coming right out and calling him out on it.

FIDO, people! Nothing to see here.

Sir, are you implying that Bunger Henry is here just seeking attention?
