UT Game

IMO, the Dillard House is not as good as it used to be. I haven't eaten there in about 5 years because I didn't think it was worth what they are charging.
I haven't eaten there in 20 years, but I've heard that from a lot of people lately. FWIW.

There is so much win in this post....
... so much.
But
Taking the week off - traveling from NC on Monday for the game, staying through the week to be there for the home opener on Saturday. Will enjoy a day trip to North Georgia and a meal at either the Dillard House or Smith House and catch a couple of Braves games and Georgia High School football on Friday. Delighted to be married to a wife who thinks this is a good vacation week. Daughter, son-in-law and three year old grandson will join from NC for Jax State and Sunday Braves game. The three year old informed his Mom this summer, "I want to see Grandaddy's school and watch Georgia Tech play football this year." Gotta love that kid! My grandfather graduated from Jax State in 1908, taught in a one room school house in Alabama, and married his oldest student soon after she graduated. He'd be in big trouble for that now, but he and my grandmother enjoyed a great marriage, ten kids and 31 grand kids. Looking forward to this week and a 2-0 start to the year.
there's so much more win in this post...

35 days to go, ladies and gentlemen. 35 days.

It's not. Really went downhill when Mr. Dillard passed.

There are some really good restaurants up here that I can suggest, if @77GTFan needs a referral.

öööö that. My son's HS team has a scrimmage this Saturday. Season starts next week. Too early IMO but I'll be basking in football glory while you losers wait another month. :hsdance:

Would love to know the best places to eat in Georgia mountains. I've been away in NC a long while and only know the old traditional favorites.

Just gonna put Rabun stuff here:

higher end (well, for Rabun)
Fortify (incredible bar manager - best drinks you'll ever have, good farm-to-table, seasonal menu)

The Red Barn/Tiger Mountain Vineyard

Rumor Haz It (horrible name, I know, but their food is great)

Lake Rabun Hotel

casual
Fortify Pi (off-shoot of first in above list - great pizzas, sandwiches, wings)

Universal Joint (yes, same owners as Oakhurst favorite)

Mama G's (Italian - been in Rabun for 30 years and just rebuilt after last year's fire)

random gems
Valley Cafe (good, classic, Southern fare, but the desserts are ridiculously good - apple pie is a must)

Manrique's (best Mexican I've had anywhere - reminds my mom of dishes she grew up with in SoCal)

Rusty Bike Cafe (best breakfast in town)

Burton Grille and Grocery (get the burger with pimento cheese and the fries ... you can grab a
Sun Drop or a Cheerwine in the grocery to make it perfect ... and get a cookie while you're at it)

I'm surprised you left off the Farmhouse at Persimmon Creek. That's just around the corner from some land I've got, and I've heard raves about it.

It's overrated. They have a really beautiful location and the right mix of farm-to-table feel-goodness and high-end exclusivity, but the food isn't that good for the price point. I'd rather spend my money at Fortify and have a great cocktail along with a great meal or go to the Red Barn and see what David Sweeney found at Mill Gap farm that morning that inspired him.

@dressedcheeseside how often do you come through?
