I literally have not watched a single play from them this year. Anybody know much about them? Obviously 2-8 (1-5) isn't scaring anybody. Their two wins are over CMU at home and Duke on the road.

Passing Yards- 251.3 (45th)
Rushing Yards - 106.6 (123rd)
Points For - 24.3 (100th)
Points Against - 32.2 (94th)

So defense has been terrible and not much of a ground game so far.

QB is Kurt benkert
219-380 ( 57.6%) 2,430 yards 6.40 YPA 20 TDs 11 INTs 122.9 QBR
Has -94 yards rushing on the season, so looks like a straight pocket passer at 6'4" 230lb

TB is Taquan Mizzel at 5'10" 195 lbs.
141 carries for 696 yards (4.9 YPC) 5 TDs
45 receptions for 361 yards 2 TDs
That size/stat combo makes me think he's scat back type that's been forced into a bigger role. Backup RB is 5'9" 215lb so more of a bruiser.

They've given up 31 sacks (3.1 per game) which is good for 116th out of 128 FBS teams.

So my expert analysis without watching a single play would be they have a 1-dimensional QB playing behind a shaky OL with an undersized/shifty leading rusher and some competent WRs. Looks like we have opened up as (-10.5) favorites. I'm guessing it'll move our way. Hopefully we have some of our starters back to continue moving the ship in the right direction.

They beat Duke by 14 and lost to Louisville by 3. Plus, we always have trouble putting the Cavs away.

At least its at home this year and not the curse of Scott Stadium

I haven't watched them either. That record with the points for and against stats seems to indicate they haven't been blown out.

Better than Eason in every stat with 2x the QBR. If Eason is the football Christ, this guy must be unbelievable.

I think y'all might be talking about different QBR scales. On the 100 point ESPN scale, here are some comparisons:

Kurt Benkert - 50.6
Jacob Eason - 58.9
Deshaun Watson - 77.3
Justin Thomas - 79.1

:coffee2:

Well forget about Benkert's QBR - Mendenhall just announced that he's getting benched for 5th year Senior Matt Johns.

Matt Johns rides again.
The starting quarterback for Virginia in all 12 games last season, the popular fifth-year senior will make his first start of 2016 in the penultimate game of his career Saturday at Georgia Tech, replacing junior Kurt Benkert.
Coach Bronco Mendenhall announced the switch Monday, saying he believes the struggling Benkert will benefit from taking a step back and that Johns has earned the right to play.
Benkert's best game came in week four vs. Central Michigan, when he threw for a school-record 421 yards and five touchdowns. He followed that with 336 passing yards and three touchdowns vs. Duke the next week.
The transfer from East Carolina has been slumping of late, throwing two fourth-quarter interceptions in a loss to Wake Forest and fumbling twice in last Saturday's loss to Miami. Virginia (2-8, 1-5 ACC) has lost five straight.
Benkert has completed 219 of 380 passes (57.6 percent) on the season, with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Johns completed 247 of 403 passes (61.3 percent), with 20 TDs and 17 interceptions last season. He was beaten out by Benkert in preseason camp and slipped to third on the depth chart, behind Connor Brewer.
Johns appeared in nine games as a holder before Saturday, when he relieved Benkert in the fourth quarter. Johns completed three of seven passes in mop-up duty, but had three passes dropped.
Johns has been praised all season by Mendenhall and Virginia's players for his positive attitude and leadership despite his lack of playing time. He's regarded as an unofficial captain.
"I'm really happy for him that he has this opportunity," linebacker Zach Bradshaw said. "If there's any one on the team that deserve it is him."
Neither Johns nor Benkert were made available to reporters Monday. Mendenhall said the move gives Virginia the best chance to win Saturday, and could help Benkert's development over the long haul.

Johns is 5-9 for 77 yards this season with 1 TD. Crazy that he's played that sparingly with as much as their offense has struggled. He was 17-28 for 175 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT against us last season.

I think UVA has a good coach. He owns CPJ. I wouldn't count this game as a sure win.

Two folks have now said that UVA HC Mendenhall "owns" CPJ. I only see the two wins when he was at BYU as their only matchups. Are we now saying that two games is enough a sample size to consider a matchup as "owned"? Or am I missing some other Mendenhall-Johnson matchups?

GT seems to play better when they have something to prove
