UVA Scouting

Two folks have now said that UVA HC Mendenhall "owns" CPJ. I only see the two wins when he was at BYU as their only matchups. Are we now saying that two games is enough a sample size to consider a matchup as "owned"? Or am I missing some other Mendenhall-Johnson matchups?

Dude was literally in the media, both before and after both of our games vs BYU, talking about how much he loves to coach defense against the option. Like, it's his most favorite thing to do in football.

Good for him! Literally has no impact on Saturday's game.

The '12 and '13 teams had to be the most inconsistent teams CPJ has had. We got our asses kicked by MTSU in '12. BYU was just better than us both those years.

Nah, I was at 2012 game and watched 2013 game. They were both ugly, sure, but my issue is with people throwing around the term "owned". If 2 games is now a sufficient sample size, I think we're making a mistake.

CPJ owned Cutcliffe for 5 years before Cutcliffe owned CPJ for 2. Ownership on this board changes faster than on the home improvement shows on HGTV.

Mendenhall was probably the one of the first coaches to load the box consistently and dare us to pass. He blitzed a lot and had safeties up close, which put bodies in place to stop the run and pressure the QB. This year we've had more success with pass protection and hitting receivers in man coverage with little or no safety help. I'm not so sure if he'll try that again this go around. We'll see on Saturday.

Could be a problem if our quarterback can't throw, whether it's injury related (Matthew Thomas) -or- skillset related (Justin Jordan)..

If his defense is disciplined, they will do well. Make a mistake and we burn them. Our offense is designed to go where the numbers are. We have been hampered last season and this season by the inability to run the midline so defenses have been able to scheme against us a bit better. If we run our offense the way it is supposed to be run, we should always have an advantage over the defense.

Of course, that is probably true for every decently designed offense.
