I am thinking of going up to Charlottesville this year for the game and was wondering if anyone has made the trek from Atlanta before. I think it would be worth it to see a streak broken this year. :fingersx:

I was there in '92 - unfortunately the first game of the streak. Go and end this, would you?? Great college atmosphere, if a little uppity. Crappy stadium at the time, but I think they have done a good bit since then.

GO JACKETS!!

I'll be there but its only a 2 hour trip for me. I'm bringing li'l Beestie (9yo) to his first Tech game. He's got his #21 Jersey and Buzz hat all set out and ready.

Enough of this bull. One streak ends on October 24, 2009 and, on that same day, another begins.

You can fly Airtran to Richmond for $200 round trip. Hooville is 60 miles from Richmond.

I don't have a place to stay yet but am going to the game. I went to the last two games up there and stayed at the Boar's Head (expensive) and at a Marriott (too far) outside of DC the other time. Anyone have any thoughts on where to stay?

My sister went to UVA and we have made the trip several times. I love Charlottesville and highly recommend going up for the game. We stay just north of town at any one of the chain hotels that they have. The Omni is the best in the area, but it will be full, as will most of the downtown hotels.
If you are driving take Friday off and drive up the day before. It is a hike unless you fly into Richmond or even DC. We usually left Thursday night and stayed in Asheville on Thursday and spent some time around the Biltmore or other attractions on Friday before driving up to Hooville. Once there, check out the Mall (downtown area with great restaurants, bars and shops).
Whatever you do, get your reservations early (for dinner and for rooms).

I'm going. But there's just something about that stadium and atmosphere I just don't like and have never liked.

Not important though - I hope PJ and the Jackets break their backs (on the scoreboard).

It is not as bad a drive as some have said. I live 1 hour south of Charlottesville and have season tickets in Atlanta. It normally takes about 6.5 hours for me to drive to ATL, so you should be able to make the drive in 7.5 hours.

It is 505 miles stadium to stadium. Just take I-85 N all the way to Greensboro, NC. Then take Hwy 29N from Greensboro to Charlottesville. Most of the speed limits are 65 or 70 through Georgia and NC and 29N is 60 and 65 mph in Virginia.

How sold out are games in Hooville, usually? Is there a chance of rolling up and getting seats at face value or less?

They do a decent job of filling up their stadium but I feel like there are ALWAYS tickets for face value available. I guess it depends on their season.

Like others were saying - the drive is actually pretty easy (few turns, etc). Just don't speed on 29 in VA. Google maps will tell you to take I-77 from Charlotte, NC to I-81 but don't do it - 29 from Greensboro is the way to go.

There are lots of hotels just north of Charlottesville on US 29 (the city limit proper is actually tiny).

Also, Charlottesville is a fun little city. I recommend coming up for a game at least once in your life. And why not make it the game we end the streak?

I am disappointed that you posted on a UVA thread without a single reference to Zima.
Well, I'm not looking for places to drink there, or for a good way to fit in.

Apparently, they ceased making Zima about a year ago. I'm sure there was a great mourning in Hooville.
