Va Tech hits travel \'goldmine\' by joining ACC

No wonder they tried to jump through the phone lines to accept the ACC's invitation when it was offered. Most of their sports teams' travel budgets will be cut in half or more.
Not only is it just a short bus ride to UVa & about twice as long as that to Maryland, but did u know that it is ONLY an hour & 40 minutes by bus from Blacksburg to Wake Forest? That means only about 2 hrs to Duke/NC St & 2.5 to NCar.
These fairly short trips will also make it VERY CONVINIENT for fans to travel to away games. Thus, not only will VT be able to increase their revenues by selling admittance, but it should help nicely to up attendance at several ACC schools as well.
This is simply an excellent fit between the ACC & Virginia Tech. Here is a link to an article talking about how VT must raise their minor sports to compete in the ACC & how much easier it will be to travel in ACC country.
"Our guys are going to play before more people in the first year than they've played in front of the last five years combined," Hartman noted. He is VT's HC in baseball.

I think they'll be a nice fit. Particularly when the Olympic sports pick it up a notch and I think they will.
