Vanderbilt AWAY in 2009???

It has to be that Dan expects the acc to be a respected conference again very soon. What he may not understand is that the middle aged to old Tech fans try but just can't get fired up about the acc schedule in general.

well...it was just one year ago we were as good as any conference and had a record number of draft picks go in the first round.

The ACC will be back.

Number of draft picks is not the problem. It is the interest within the conference that is. A span of Miami to Boston makes it very hard to build rivalries.

I'll personally have no problem getting up for the Clemson and Virginia Tech games at home next season.

Then again, I'm not exactly an old timer and I wasn't alive when Tech was in the SEC.

Im a youngin by most standards around here, but outside of VT, and to a much lesser exstint UVA, I just don't get excited about playing teams north of Clemson. But, it is what it is, and its not changing anytime soon.

I think we have gotten up for other teams north of Clemson. In particular, NC State and Maryland. The reason it's hard to get excited about the other NC schools is quality of play and that could change (except Duke). BC could end up being a pretty good game, but since we will only play them 2 out of every 5 years, it will end up being no more interesting to us than playing Arkansas is for UGA.

Playing Miami, VT, and Clemson as well as improving UNC and UVA teams is a fairly stout conference schedule year in and year out. When you add rotating teams from the other side, such as FSU, BC, NC State, and Maryland, I think that you have a very challenging schedule most years.

In the forseeable future, we also play UGA and 1 other SEC school (2 in 2009) every year. Between now and 2012, we play 2 cupcakes (not including Bobby Ross' Army team) in only one year, 2010 and I wouldn't be suprised if we picked up an Army or Navy in place of MTSU. Our overall strength of schedule is what quickly quieted the Louisville crowd when we cancelled that series. If you want to see a joke, look at Wisconsin's schedule this past year.

Are they going to have to die so we can have a packed house full of people who are there to see Georgia Tech not the opponent?

No, but we do need twice the number of fans we now have in order to fill the building against just anyone.

Many that go to watch their beloved vols or dogs play the directional schools are getting their ticket from a season ticket holder that has little interest.

If we play a 1-aa school lets play Georgia Southern, Furman and App State the top of the league at least. South Carolina State and Samford etc are awful in 1-AA. The top schools bring a crowd believe it or not and would at least create a good atmosphere. The directional Lousiana schools are competitive in their league that has their own bowl game. Notice LSU plays them not South Carolina State.

When Ga. plays Utah State at home, they draw 92,000 fans, all of them for Ga. They don't sit around and complain "Utah state doesn't bring anybody".

I think a lot of it might have to do with your profession. I interact daily with eUNuCh, Dook, WF, BC, Miami, & UVA grads. Those schools don't produce a ton of engineers, so unless you are a non-gineer then you probably don't run into many of those folks. Not so many Maryland, F$U, VT, Clempson, & NC$T fans in my business. But F$U, VT, & Clempson seem to be numerous enough in ATL to interact with and build up some rivalry with. And I'm sure you engineers run into Clempson and VT folks quite a bit.

I know I'm an outlier, but I actually enjoy the ACC crowd and prefer them to the SEC crowd (outside of Ole Miss & Auburn). Maybe it's because I'm a wine and cheese guy.
