In yet another nicely done piece by Brian Murphy from the Macon paper they talk about the 'personality' of Tenuta & his softening toward the media in hopes of landing a HC job at a decent div1a school. IMO, he has not grasped that he may have to start @ Wyoming, Tulsa, the MAC, etc just to prove himself ready to run a full program, but he seems to be holding out for the BCS conferences. Anywho, it's a good article.
Makes me wonder why Coach G doesn't do this with an OC?

'ace you beat me to posting the Tenuta article,now I know for sure what he looks like! Somebody edify me, wasnt Patrick Nix promoted to OC, even though CCG calls the plays?
Seems like there was a lot of conversation about that earlier this year but I dont have the time to research it.

Thanks Ace. This will be a HUGE test

for Tenuta and his D. The last two games his D has dominated, but against Maryland and Duke...two of the worst teams in the ACC. Now comes the national spotlight on a Thursday night against a very fast and very good VT offense. IF we can hold them to low points, he'll be the toast of the media. If we don't and get swamped, then we fall back to earth.

BIG test indeed. Is Tenuta and the D up for the challenge?? They're gonna have to play their BEST game yet to help us win because we never know what kind of game Reggie's gonna have. I think if we turn the ball over more than once, we're done for. Even the D won't be able to rescue us.

great article. Question for R\'mover or others...

That was a great article. Couple of random thoughts;
1) What is the difference in in "commanding" respect vs. "demanding" it? Bulldog's post is still THE alltime internet classic and I find myself reading the hive looking for his posts. #2 all-time is on done by a guy named SaxonDawg and reposted on the hive. Don't recall the exact wording but those of you who read it will know what I am talking about.

2) Serious question for RM or anybody: if you look at tenuta's resume he has coached at the big-name programs as well as the middle and bottom-feeders. How does one evaluate a coach while allowing for difference in athletes? The alltime great coaches win with talent less than that at the big football factories (Spurrier at Duke, Ross at Tech) but how does one realistically know if it is the horses or the schemes for all the rest? I am sure that statistics comein to play but what else do the experts look at? (Not sure if this question is as clear as I would like but hope that it gets my intent across) Would welcome any thoughts on this.

B, I will try to answer. As far as commanding or Demanding goes. I always respected the coaches I played for that played themselves. They went through the battles and understand what it takes. Trust is a big issue that a player and coach must make. Treat all players the same, as hard as that may seem you have to do this. They are not only impacting All American players but walk ons as well. Jack Fligg and Mac were the best coaches I played under. They taught differenty but combined I learned alot. My coach in Buffalo plain and simple sucked. He never played a down. He paniced under situations he was not familiar with and that would cause bedlum on the sideline during games.

#2 I don't know if I can answer very good but will try without rambling. Steve Spurrier did well at Duke in my opinion was he put in a system unfamiliar to the ACC Pass oriented and found a QB and Line that could accomplish this. I feel even though I was not around but Knew Bobby Ross well is that the kids at Tech bought into his system, I think there was a mix of great players and soso players that meshed well. Bobby is a great coach and a great motivator but more than anything he has that huge trust factor. He might not be chummy with the kids but he loved them and gave them every opportunity to win.

To be honest we did not have amny good players when I was there. I think our downfall was the Offensive coordinators. We sucked pure and simple. Don Lindsey did more for that program for those years he was there than anyone. I think Bill got strapped into hiring fathers friends of friends and that backfired. Sorry to ramble but maybe that helped some.
