Gotta understand the big picture, rather than have "uga on the brain to point that it paralyzes you"
For 2 Decades, the 80s and the 90s, Fla State & Miami usually played when both Teams were in the Top10, some times Top5
The games meant more, carried more Natl attention, and most importantly in the eyes of Fla HS Recruits, it sent the Message ," do I want to go to FSU or Miami" because both Teams were always at high level it made Recruits think that they "had" to choose one or the other
When the rivalry is too lopsided the best Players in the State get wandering eyes and want to go out of State
Beating a 3-8 uga Team going into COFH doesn't moves the meter among Recruits vs beating an 11-0 uga Team, we do that and we'll be talked about in this State for 364 Days, and we'll be the darlings of Sports Talk Radio , and the in State Media
No one talks about great rivalries if one Team is a turd entering the game, the ND - USC Game with Bush & Leinart is still talked about, they still show the highlights on occasion because both Teams were having strong seasons at the Time
Notice how you never hear Ohio State or Michigan Fans say , "I hope the other Team loses every Game", both Team's Fans are savvy enough to know , the way to inflict maximum pain on the other Fanbase is beat the other when they are undefeated and ruin their Season (used to be knocking the other out of the Rose Bowl, now it means knocking the other from the CFP)
The truth is we shouldn't care what uga does the 11 Gms leading up to our Game, but if we want to inflict maximum pain on the Mutt Nation, the best way to do it is to beat them when they are undefeated with CFP implications hanging in the balance, that's how a Champion thinks
I'd like the GT vs uga Game to get more Natl Media Attention, the only way for that to happen is have both Teams with good records going into the Game
Think maximum pain for them, maximum exposure for us
That's called a win-win, but you have to have vision
Well yes, but, Tech has only beaten a Top Ten UGA team once in its history I believe. Secondly, when we beat UGA three in a row the local UGA rag stated that Tech was now the big dog in the state. Those are important issues to consider also.
