Virginia Tech is so overrated

Hey... Them being so overrated may not be so bad. Beating a very high ranked would look very good for us when we beat them in October. Even if they lose in Alabama, they will fall a little bit, but the rest of their games until us are very beatable for them.

Don't care about the rankings. I will be wishing for them to lose EVERY acc game next season. Don't want to deal with that tiebreaker crap again.

Hahaha... Kyle, I love seeing the title of this thread. I'm at work, and two of my co-workers (boss included) are VATech grads...hahaha.

And btw, I totally agree that it's a complete joke for them to be ranked in the top 10.

I cant wait to stomp their ass this year.

Like I mentioned in my post above, two people in my office including my boss are from VATech... Plus I live and work in VA. I want to beat them bad...really bad... badder than really bad...AHHHHH!

Good thing on my desk at work I have my GT coffee cup, an autographed football a few hours after last years UGA game, and a picture of Paul Johnson and GT players running out onto the field.

If VT is over rated then what does that make us, a joke? We've beat the 1 time since they joined the ACC.

No, because they are being put high above us when in fact that are maybe only slightly better.

And the idea of the whole overrated thing is that people are putting them, for preseason rankings, in the top 10 or even top 5 while we're in the top 15 in most cases.

I want to punish that team, VT.

...What made it worse was when I volunteered to man my company's booth at a VT engineering career fair, I parked my car for 5 minutes and walked inside to get a parking pass, but when I returned to my car it already had a ticket. The parking people understood and forgave the ticket...they will be spared. ;)

They have civil reasonable parking people? That puts them head and shoulders above the inept arse clowns that run the GT parking office.

On a side note...I hate when they refer to themselves as "Tech" and I become even more incenced when ESPN and others refer to them as "Tech"...If they want to go by "Poly" or some other term that properly identifies them as bubba engineers, then that is fine.
Ok, I feel better now, hopefully if we win more big games the next couple of years we can regain our rightful place as the only "Tech".

At least VT has some history to back up their ranking. VT is the cream program of the ACC and returns many key components from an ACC Champion team. Overrated or not, they've earned the respect over the years.

One could easily argue that top 15 is too high for GT given the defense and the schedule, and thereby GT is overrated.

What does the schedule have to do with rankings? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the idea of rankings that you put teams at a rank respective to other teams based on their "current" ability?

(Might not happen that way but this is a theoretical discussion anyway)

I think we should just entirely ignore these damn rankings. I would never want to be ranked too high without reason anyway. We all know how that went for Georgia.

Though, I find it odd that despite us not having beaten VT that much, I still don't see them as a threat. I don't know why, it's just a feeling.

It's because they weren't able to dominate anyone last year. I remember on VT fan calling my out about how VT never had an embarrassing loss like UNC. I responded by saying that they couldn't embarrass anybody, not even Duke.

It's harder to be worried about a team when you don't believe they can have a 25/30 point margin of victory on you.

I suppose that's why. I can fear teams like Florida because or Oklahoma because they can put huge amount of points on the board. I would still fear LSU now because even though I doubt we would lose as badly, they are some tough dudes. Virginia Tech... Nobody really stands out for me, and we don't seem to lose by much.

If our offense has improved by as much as CPJ says it has, and if our team can keep the turnover rate very low, perhaps not at all, we can easily beat every team on our schedule. We'll see what happens.

VaTech will be our toughest opponent next year...closely followed by UGA.

1- They return 9 starters on offense and 8 on defense...replacing the OG and C on offense....plus two LB's and a CB on defense. Of course, the CB stepping in played a ton last year in nickel packages. Last year was supposed to be the down year as they lost their superstars at the end of the 2007 season. Despite the "down year", they went 10-4 and won the ACC.

2- They expect to win. 10 wins last year...11 the year before that. 10 in 2006 and 11 in 2005. 2004?...10 wins. This program expects to win 10+ games every year.

3- It will be the third year for QB Tyrod Taylor...who we struggled to stop last year. This was a 5-star dual threat QB out of high school that showed signs of taking control last year. Can he improve his passing game? We will see...both returning starter WR's are only sophomores.

4- They return 1,250 yard rusher Darrel Evans (R-So)...a tough runner. He will get rest this year from R-Fr Ryan Williams who was a 4-star (Top 5 in the nation) running back out of high school. He was the offensive star of their spring game this year.

5- Bud Foster will have the defense ready once again...and this year with more experience. They do need to get the two new LB's ready...a spot we can exploit. However, superstar DE Jason Worilds (R-So; 6-2, 254) will give teams all they can handle from his spot.

Summary...just like teams should never look past well-coached teams like those of Paul Johnson....one should never look past Frank Beamer's teams. They always win.

Let's beat the feathers off them this fall.

BTW, contrary to popular opinion of many people, I believe their entrance at home is lame.

I don't think we can label any team as over rated that we've beaten only once in 5 tries. Let's beat them first before we commence to putting them down.

Yes we can, because we've been mediocre in 4 out of those 5 years. Just cause we lost to them doesn't mean they are top 5 material. Some years if they wanted to be top 25 material they better of beaten us.

Edit: I must correct myself, I wasn't paying close enough attention. We were mediocre 3 out of the 5 and for one more we were with a new head coach using 3 different plays a game.

Exactly. VT better come prepared to play, bc I have no doubt in my mind CPJ and the players have this game circled on the calendar.

But do you see how silly it sounds to label a team that's beaten you 4 out of 5 to be "over rated?"
