Wow, they had a great defense against MIA last night. I sure hope GT can get something to throw ole' Foster off for one game. If we have another lopsided TOP against them it should be good.

the way you take Foster out of the game is not let them make big plays against you
pound it up the middle, inside traps, that draw play and quick inside slants

you can go deep but watch out for the outside edge routes, like down and out. he loves to jump those and get defensive points

the other thing you do is keep the ball for 40 minutes and get them tired as hell

and dont punt the ball

Yes they did....know why? They hit HARRIS in the mouth and pressured him the entire game.

I personally don't think that VT's Defense is far and above light years ahead of ours. I think they happened to utilize the right scheme and made it happen by getting after the QB and pushin/penetratin/ Miami's OLine. It also brought Harris down to reality. He got pressured and hit and looked night and day compared to his first 2 games where that didn't happen at all.

That's the key...not just to Miami...but to Defensive Football. or Football in general.

If you Dominate the Line of Scrimmage, 9x out of 10 you'll rule the game and the outcome will go your way....PERIOD

Agree with everythin THWG said, but let's also not forget the weather factor. A bunch of guys from south Florida don't usually do too well in cold and wet conditions. Still, I think Miami is somewhere between how they played in our game and the VT game. Likewise, I don't think VT is as good as a cursory look at the score of yesterday's game would indicate.

I was listening to some of the game on 680 and after that Miami basketball-player-turned-receiver dropped a pass, they said STTE "the basketball's never wet."

An open passing team like Miami does not usually do well in the rain. It takes very skilled receivers to effectively catch in the rain. It doesn't help either that they probably go to an indoor facility somewhere to practice when it does rain in the old sunshine state.

I disagree. Miami players are used to playing in the rain. It rains every friggin day. What they are not used to is playing in the cold rain at a hostile environment.

I'll agree to this. As someone who has spent a lot of time in South Florida as well as other places, the rain is Florida is A LOT warmer than rain anywhere else.

I also think Miami's offense let their success swell their noggins. Maybe not Harris, can't tell cause he doesn't shout out like an A-hole some of the other players are but the other 10 players....

I think this is entirely true. They were over confident and didn't know how to respond when their offense wasn't clicking.

I hope they have the same breakdown against Clemson and UNC.

Why did VT win big?

1. Rain hurts a passing team more than a rushing team (Miami is a passing team, VT is a running team).

2. They were the first team to put pressure on Harris.

I have confidence that we would have done much better against Miami with our new defensive front that gets much more pressure on the QB.
