In 2005, GT dethroned a top 5 Miami team, and their program went into a deep, downward spiral of thuggery, failure, and ineptitude, ending with them firing a national championship coach.

Is this where VT is headed? This rash of whining and complaints reminds me quite a bit of the media frenzy that followed Miami losing to Tech in 05.

No. They've been playing thugs for at least 10 years and Beamer's seat is not even warm.

Please, can we please, PLEASE stop comparing Virginia Tech to programs that have actually won National Championships?

VPI ought to be compared to South Florida, or Fresno State. Cute little programs that have made a little noise lately but which have lacking tradition and no championships. VPI was just one of those teams we beat on the way to our fourth National Championship. Compare them to South Carolina or Tennessee-Chattanooga, but not Miami.

Its a little tough to place them. They've never won a MNC, but to be fair they have won a bunch of conference championships.

Boise State perhaps?

This is over the top, don't you think?

Although their football success only really tracks back to the mid 90's, VT has won two straight ACC titles and 3 out of the last 5. They played for a national title against FSU (1999).

I think many GT fans would enjoy that level of "recent" success. It's safe to say they have done a little more then USF or Fresno State on the gridiron.

Meh. If you look back of the last 10 years, this is about the time of the season when they generally go in the tank and lose any shot of a nat'l championship.

'08. Started 5-1, lost 3 of next 4.
'05. Started 8-0, lost 2 of next 4.
'03. Started 6-0, finished 2-5.
'02. Started 8-0, lost 4 of next 5.
'01. Started 6-0, finished 2-4.

Call 'em the Chokies.
