Wake game...

Good boy! Good post! Good boy!

I agree with most everything posted so far.

I think our defense has the lateral speed at LB
to contain an option or wishbone running attack
and we have seen in past games that Hargrove has
the ability to chase folks down from behind. Our
weakness in stopping the run is not out on the
corner, its between the tackles.

If Wake tries to run outside we'll hammer them.

Wake is well coached and gets a lot out of the talent that they have. I would suspect that we will seriously slow down their running game and force them into passing situations. This is probably the key, since we are still prone to give up the big play.

On offense, as long as our line play continues to improve, I expect a good performance. Suggs is improving, Bilbo should get some reps also, ACE is outstanding....hopefully Sampson will get some carries to take the load off ACE....our receivers may have a field day led by Watkins. I would very much like to see some passes to our tight ends and also I would like to see Dixon carry the ball from the fullback position.

Kicking is a big concern if Manget cannot go....Buck said in the AJC that Jordan would not play unless both kickers are out for an extended period. So we will just have to work around Manget's injury.

Should be a good game...although TECH could blow them out I have picked a TECH win by 10.

My thinking why the 'bone isn't used like it use to be is right along with beeware's post. Players have gotten bigger and faster on the D side of the ball. Just about everyone outside the DT's run near the 4.5 range on average.

The way the rules of the game have changed give an advantage to the WR over the DB which has caused coaches to throw the ball more. Can't hit the wr outside of 5 yards and he's given more or a chance at the ball than the DB IMO. If the WR breaks on the ball through the defender making a catch, it's great play by the WR. If the defender makes a break on the ball through the WR making the catch, it's a flag, pass interference. Unless it's an ACC game. I'm not sure what the consistent call is in this league. Seems to change from play to play.

I thought Wake ran the ball out of a power I. I don't seem to remember them playing much Bone. I could be wrong, but I couldv'e sworn they were a power I team.

The good ole wishbone. If I remember correctly the QB reads the DT to decide whether to give to the FB, but as a practical matter its too quick to read. Then he reads the DE to decide whether to cut up or pitch the ball to the trailing back. Lead back blocks the corner or outside backer. Too quick to pull the guards. Hargrove/Henderson will play key roles and must pinch hard and smack the QB. Our LB speed helps a lot here.

Other posts about the LB coverages, true we are leaving too much room between backers and safeties in the zone. Durant found the seam up the middle too many times.

Nice post gents!

Wake has a qb, MacPherson, and a WR, Fabian Davis, that are really good players. Even though they run that option well, they haven't run it against a defense that runs sideline to sideline like the Jackets. That Davis reminds me of the Hamilton guy at Clem. He's not real big, but he's fast and quick at 5'11 180lbs. He makes things happen at WR and punt return. We need to slow him down and now allow him big plays.

Have to hand it to Wake. They lost two greally good backs, but guys have filled in this year well. They don't seem to have one go to guy, but several rbs are stepping up. They have size as well.

I wonder if Wake giving up so many passing yards is because they've played pass oriented teams. Really don't know if they've played a team that likes a more balanced attack. Even though we should match up well with them with our WR group, I look for us to establish the run to not allow that option attack of Wake's to dominate time of possession.

GO JACKETS! Beat Wake!

I think he fact that Tech has faced the scambling type QB's it has already that it really helps us for the option that will be run this weekend.

Wake's defense is atrocious and I look for Suggs & Bilbo to gain more confidence this weekend (which will be great since we don't play again until 10/17!!).

Look for Tech to show Wake what playing a real defense will do for those inflated yards.

Tech 37 Wake 17

I think that Wake has an excellent coach in Jim Grobe. He is doing a good job with what he has to work with, and we do need to be careful in this game.

Hypothetically speaking, if all the ACC had exactly the same talent, I think possibly Grobe might come in as the second best coach in the league...behind the Fridge.

GO JACKETS...beat Weak Florist....and beat them just a little worse since they made us change uniforms.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Good point, GTT - looking at the stats, Wake does seem to have some success stopping the run. However, they have not played a team like GT that can dictate how the game will be played to the defense. As a matter of fact, it's been a while since we've been able to line up and run it successfully even when the defense knows that we're going to run it. Our Oline is quickly becoming the strength of our offense. If it's true that Wake will run a 3-3-5 formation at us this weekend then I have a strong feeling the Wake's run stats will look quite different on Sunday morning.

Also, let's not forget that Wake has a huge game against Puke next weekend. Let's hope that their heads are in the game and they're not overlooking us.

Contact,
That is pretty funny.

Duke is improved this year, having won two games already. I think they are very pleased to have someone the caliber of Coach Roof as part of their organization.

If Wake is a wishbone team, we may have more problems than anticipated on defense. Does anybody know whether or not they run the 'bone?

On offense, we should be methodical and plodding in the first half by grinding it out and consuming the clock and wearing down their defense.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Apparently they do run the wishbone but I think that plays into the hands of our speedy DEs and LBs. If everyone keeps their assignment and tackles well then we should be able to stop them.
