Walk of Shame.

We had better win ballgames big from here on out, IMO. No letting Duke, NC State, Wake hang around. We must beat UVA. We need to beat Miami. We MUST beat UGAg. We will learn a lot about the character of our coaches and players starting next Thursday.

BOR, I feel your pain. To invest so much in being a fan and having a weekend like the past one really sucks. Hope Monday finds you feeling slightly better.

As for support of Gailey, this weekend is a good reason to remind us to evaluate coaches on a season by season, not game by game basis. This is why you don't extend a contract because of one win like the one at Auburn. I believe a win over NCSU, no letdowns at home against Wake or Clemson, and a win at Duke gets us to 7-4. Then, any wins against UVA, Miami, or the Dawgs is even better. Play for the rest of the season like we did on Saturday and Dave Braine won't need our posts to make his decision. But, the chance for a great or very good season is there if we play better. O-line and kicking game must improve!

If we fired coaches for horrible games all of our coaches would get the hook pretty quick. We have to think big picture. On the way out of Lane Stadium I understand how firing Chan may have seemed like a good idea. Replacing him with a genius like, say, Bobby Petrino, would have seemed a better idea. But, one game is insufficient for judging any coach.

yep, one and the same. If my memory is correct, favored by 20 something, lost by 20 something. Beats our loss.
This is only one game, we are 3-1, and any of us would have taken this spot before the season started. We were playing with a QB that was recovering from a serious illness, against one of the premiere teams in the country. The next 6 games will tell our future.

Rmover - that was intended sarcasm. My point was that those who get mad after a game and want to fire the coach always think some hotshot like Petrino is "the answer". But, every hotshot, Stoops, Petrino, the Boise State wonder in Athens - they all will have days when they and their team deserve an "F". Judge season by season, not game by game.

My judgement was made after game 41 of this coach in his 4th season. I'm not trying to push an agenda of firing him, all I am saying is in my opinion if you think its going to get better, its not. At season's end I think most will agree with me, and we should probably look elsewhere.

But, doesn't Game 38 of the Gailey era count as much as Game 41? The first was a tremendous win against tall odds. The team was well coached and well prepared. The latter was an awful performance all the way around. Let's be patient and let more of this season unfold. If we are less than 7-2 or perhaps 6-3 after Wake I'll be there with you saying a win over UGA is a must for Gailey to continue.

If I were AD, I'd have a hard time firing this staff at 7-4 or better. At 5-6 or worse I'd not hesitate. 6-5 is the record that would be the most difficult - do your fire a man with four straight winning seasons? do you extend a man with four seasons with little improvement, no major bowls, and nowhere near a conference championship?

That's my whole point, if a change is made then make it at the end of the season.

On a side note, has anyone heard the rumor that Braine is trying to get a buyout ASAP?

Do you mean of Gailey's contract? If so I would probably look for another team to support even though I have been a fan sinse the early fifties. The reason I say that is Chan has done an exellent job with more backsets that were not his doing (I'll not name them) and to let him go at this point would be a disgrace to Tech and all they stand for.

No i meant Dave Braines contract. I have spoken to about 20 alums and fans and this was brought up a couple of times within the conversations.

Everyone i have spoken to says wait until the end of the season to evaluate. A side note: it was about 1/2 and 1/2 of fans and not fans of Chan but 100% agreed to re evaluate after the season.

Thank you mover. I would be very disappointed if Tech handled Chan in such a shoddy way after he has had so many things against him. It is amazing to me that he has done as well as he has.

my concern is PH...

PH has seemed Very vocal in his support and loyalty towards Braine. I don't know how much of that is coach speek, but if it risked PH leaving ONE MINUTE EARLY I would prefer Braine DIE AS THE AD.

Unlike some I don't get too caught up w/ AD problems. They hire coaches and I know BB hire was one of the best in GT history. With regard to FB I think the AD hired the best candidate available.

If somebody does something to push PH out of here it would be the DUMBEST MOVE in the history of college BB coaching.

Re: my concern is PH...

I think Hewitt has enough loyalty emong the alumni that he wouldn't go anywhere. Obviously he is loyal to Braine and for good reason, but like I've said before, you don't let a basketball coach run your Athletic Department. If you want an example, see Duke.

Well we are 3-1 when by the odds we should be 2-2. Nevertheless it is freakin mystifying our inconsistency and they way we do fall into the mental abyss some games and you have to fault the coach for that.

But you don't fire the coach for losing one game after he's won the first three so grumble a little bit but don't spill your milk and lose your cookies yet.

I'm still reserving judgment on Chan until the end of the year... He may be a decent recruiter and a good moral person and a good game planner but he royally sux at making the changes during the game to counter the opposition and he is very poor at crisis management.

If CG must go, then DB needs to as well. CG has some big screw ups, but he has been dealt some crappy cards by clough/braine.

No, I am not talking about a HC change at this point.
On a side note, I do expect HC Gailey to re evaluate position coaches on the O side of the ball.

gotcha pocketwatch...I would change out one asst. coach...and I would have done it three years ago.

I still feel the same way.
The changes over the winter and spring made me happy. Many don't agree, but without DRad coming, Chan is still calling plays. I don't fault CG for still wanting to be our offensive "guru". Actually, I think it's healthier for him to admit he's missing it, but then to add that his new role is best for the program.
I now believe that Chan can be a GREAT head coach as soon as he is comfortable in the CEO role.

Regarding the game, I hope we win any way we can get it. My fear is that this thing gets away from us quickly because of quick scores off of "confusion" turnovers. I will be watching with one eye open.

I desperately hope I am wrong!
