Was this anybody else's first victory over UGA?

Yes, this is the first year that i've really really followed tech though, I have been a long time GSU fan and have watch us fall to UGA 3 times (fist time I saw was 2000) and I am glad to watch richt being smacked around in his own house!

I started following Tech in earnest in 1997 and only had to wait a year for my first win over UGAg and got to enjoy the three year streak. But I honestly had forgotten what it was like and it feels like the fiiiiiiirst tiiiiiiiiiiime.

This was the first time my wife got to see us beat Georgia though, and she was absolutely ecstatic.

I go back to the time of the 8-year win streak. That was when I did not hate UGA because I looked forward to the automatic win each year.

But then came 1957 and the famous drought buster. You would have thought UGA had won a national championship. We, on the other hand, felt it was only a matter of a year or so before we would start a new win streak of 8, 9, 10 or more.

That was more than a half-century ago and that new win streak is long overdue.

Go Jackets!

Nope, my first was Godsey to Kerry Watkins all day on the underneath route in 2000, watching as a wide-eyed sophmore transfer with my then Miami Hurricanes obsessed roomate....and yes I do have the T-Shirt conmemorating 3 straight (98-2000)

first victory here. enrolled at tech in fall 2001 as an out-of-stater with no ties to georgia. definitely a good feeling.

4th victory over UGA as a Tech fan.

But this was the first season that I went to every home game and was DIE HARD about GT. The previous years I was a fan, but not as dedicated as this year.

Not my first. I believe that the first win I saw was in '88. I could be wrong about the year though. All I remember is Jerry Mays running all over UGAg. All the kids in the neighborhood were UGAg fans and that was the day I became a GT fan.

That was '89.

We got screwed by the Peach Bowl that year. (I won't say "too", not yet.)

My first was '84. I didn't become a Tech fan until I started school in 1981. My first Tech win actually happened before I got to school - it also happened to be my last Tech win for more than a year.

You young whippersnappers are something else. In 1961 through 1963 I saw Tech win 3 in a row with Billy Lotheridge at quarterback. Never happened again until Joe Ham and Godsey did it in the late 1990. But the one this year was the most satisfying because it was a great game. It highlighted the character of our team as oppossed to the talented thugs at the "university" and it shut those trailer trash rubes up for a year.

fortunately i was privileged enough to grow up a tech fan so I have seen a couple of wins although I was pretty young and definitely couldnt celebrate...

this was my 5th and final year as a student here so it definitely meant a lot tho. and the celebration was AMAZING. me and my buddies went downtown immediately after and orders "shots of something yellow". i was kind of scared we were about to get shots of piss but thankfully we got pineapple upside down cake instead...

Thanks, I couldn't remember what year it was, I was only 11 at the time. I still have the front page from the ajc from that game somewhere.

Seriously, we beat them 2 of 4 while I was at Tech. Didn't know how spoiled I had become. Then Herschel came on the scene and it's never been the same, except for the dozen years between 1989-2000. We were 5-7 over that span, but had that 7-year streak then, too.

PJ just needs to rip off about 5 IAR on those guys, and all will be well on the Flats.

My first victory over UGA when in attendance, in 7 tries (every game since 2001, except for 2002 in Athens). My family and I were traveling in 1998 - I distinctly remember hearing the score on the radio and we were near West Point, a team that our current coach would soon begin dominating - and in 1999 my dad convinced me to go play golf after we'd built a nice lead (though the pro shop guy in the UGA polo sadly telling me "the wrong team won" after we finished is a nice memory), so 2000 is the last win I really remember watching, and I was a freshman in high school at the time.

I wish it hadn't taken until my 5th year at Tech to get another win, but being there was fantastic.

This thread is depressing. I had forgotten what if felt like myself.
I'm kinda surprised there are so many younger fans on the board who started following Tech around the same time I did.

I was at Tech for the 3 in a row, so no, it wasn't. Although, this one felt the best!

Started at Tech in August 2002, finished in December 2007. Had my heart broken each year.

This is my first win too. I only wish I was still on campus when it happened. Although I did get to enjoy rushing the field against Auburn, rushing the court against Duke, and running out of Woodruff and into the streets celebrating with everyone when Will Bynum made that layup to put us in the National Championship Game.

I started in August of '03 and finished in May of '07. I rushed the field for Auburn (that was my first GT game), went nuts on campus when Bynum hit the last second shot, but suffered very depressing defeats against UGA, too.

This UGA defeat means so,so much... :)
