First let me say, this is a football post and would like to try and keep it a serious X and O discussion. I hate those guys as much as th next guy.

I watched the replay of the UGA/UK game last night and I have to admit I was very impressed. I had gained a little hope after looking at Stafford's box score and seeing the score throughout the day, but after watching them that hope was really diminished.

I was amazed at how much energy they are playing with on defense especially their back 7 is so fast and agressive. Their linebackers and safties were flying all over the field just bringing the wood. Watching them play defense against UK showed me just how much energy our football team is missing.

Stafford did not play nearly as bad as his line would indicate. They have a nice simple air attack that I think will be difficult for us to defend.

If we are going to win this game, we are going to have to really make hay with our front 7 vs. their OLine. I also think that if we can get a solid ground game going, we could get some things against their secondary. They are very athletic and play hard but might be a little undisciplined.

You always have a chance, but GT is going to have to play very well and with a lot of passion to match the intesity at which UGA plays. I look forward to seeing our passion on Saturday. Win or lose, I hope we match that energy.

Still, I must say that I was very impressed they might be playing as well as any UGA team that I can remember in a very long time.

I agree with you about UGA playing as well (or better than) any UGA team in a while.

But this is a rivalry game. Look, I am sure most of you will not agree, but in my opinion UGA usually has significantly better talent than GT. Not at every position but for the most part we have a better roster.

That doesn't matter quite as much on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Throw out the records / standings. Watching both teams over the last 3 - 4 weeks would lead one to believe UGA should take this game by 14 - 21 points. But I expect another close one. Like I said before, this could be your year.

Since we cant score, how do you profess that this could be our year, we score a field goal and CCG says okay JT hold them.

UGA is an outstanding football team, front to back, top to bottom, and I'm amazed they lost 2 games this year.

They needed an act of god to beat us last year, and we will need god to return the favor for us to win this year.

no all they needed was a Chan/Nix coached team

Also, UGA has improved greatly over the year...their losses came early. These are two different teams.

See that is what good coaching does; is you see significant improvement from day one to end of the year in your team; especially with young players. Here on the flats its been a long time since we could say that; probably 2000 was the last time.

They needed a confluence of the worst game of Reggie Ball's life, and the worst officiating in the history of the ACC, to win that game. And they got it.

maybe I missed it...what was the poor officiating? Reggie did fumble that ball?

Also, worst game of reggies life, not benched ='s who's fault?

how about 1 4th quarter carry for TC? Who's to blame there when he was tearing up UGA? Man...man o man...We had the lead in the 4th...and decided to pass it like we were peyton manning..who's fault there?

Dude...Stop blaming Reggie...the issue is this staff....

Funny. I've never heard a 5' 10" light brown skinned tattooed QB referred to as an act of god. There's a first for everything, I suppose.

Umm, the refs not blowing the whistle while they were ACTIVELY PULLING OUR PLAYERS OFF THE PILE, then letting UGA run the ball in for the TD WHILE THEY WERE STANDING IN THE WAY PREVENTING OUR PLAYERS FROM TACKLING HIM?

You know, THAT PLAY?

Dude...Stop blaming Reggie...
God forbid I lay any sort of blame on a QB who only produced 11 net positive yards all game while giving the other team 10 points off turnovers. SOMEONE STOP ME from laying blame on a guy who GAVE THEM A POINT FOR EVERY YARD HE GAINED, while receivers were standing WIDE OPEN, ALL NIGHT LONG. Someone please! He must be stopped! Beej67 isn't PC enough to protect Reggie's FEELINGS!

Of course all losses go back to the HC. That's the HC's job, to take responsibility for every loss. Yay, you win. But don't overlook that it took an act of god, two acts of congress, and an elaborate lever and pulley system for UGA to win last year.

I'll agree with most everything you said but the "throw out the records/standings" junk.....There has not been an UPSET in this game in a very long time..The team playing the best and with more confidence, and better coaching normaly wins this game, and I think we all know who has that going for them...Theres been times where Tech would hang in a little longer than expected because they played their guts out but in the end the overall talent and coaching wins out for you guys..Playing your rival close does not count as an upset.....but who knows, this could be the year for a REAL upset. You know, Hell frezzing over, the blind squrriel finding a nut, etc.

Another key factor in close games is having or lacking quality depth. UGA beats us here as well. As the 4th quarter rolls around(and sometimes sooner), we begin to fade/lose focus/make critical errors due to being on the field all day w/o the significant rest that depth allows. Therfore you see a lot of close games and leads get blown in the 2nd half.

Nomatter how prepared/focused/emotionally high you are the week before the game, you won't get it done if you're gassed when the game is on the line.

I'll say this... Gailey is due his one big upset this year. It seems he gets one every year and I don't really count the Clemson game as an upset. Let's hope this is it... even if you want him gone.

Were we Favored last year?? I really don't remember..Even if we were would you still call THAT an upset? don't think so..

Hell yes we were favored, because we had a vastly superior team than UGA in every phase of the game. More experienced QB, all universe WR, more experienced line play on both sides, better linebackers, equal secondary. And we nearly almost won having zero yards passing and 3 turnovers from the QB position. We were 9-2 going in to the Georgia game.

Yes, last year was an upset.

Georgia was opened at -2 and the line moved to favor them more as the week went on. We were underdogs in that game. It was easy to see why too, if you looked at our 7-0 "win" over UNC two weeks prior.

I thought ugag was favored at game time, maybe a pick-um to start the week...I do feel last year was our best shot in a while, and yes I feel like we should have won, but the fact the mutts won at HOME doesn't make it an upset. At least I wasn't surpised. Now if we were to win Saturday, that would be considered an upset........:fingersx:

You may very well get an upset this week. UGA tends to come out flat whenever games mean a lot. If you jump on us early like Tennessee did, who knows? UGA is a young team, and they didn't handle adversity very well whenever they played UT or when they played So. Carolina.

On another note, I must say that it's very refreshing to finally find an intelligent thread on this board that wants to actually discuss football. It's nice to not be asked if I am having sex with my sister or my mother simply because I am a fan of UGA. Thanks, guys.

They simply have more, better players than we do. But if we can continue to recruit like we have in the past couple of years we can certainly be more competitive than have been in the past. I doubt we can ever stock up on talent like they do but we can get enough talent with the right coaching to make things much more interesting than in the past. GT has what it takes. We just need to have the right people in place to make it happen. And Dave Braine wasn't one of them. He may have set this program back as far as it was before Homer Rice came around. Whatever happens soon, I hope DRad makes the recruiting coordinator an offer he can't refuse.
