Wes and Jeff were both commenting early on that State was practicing the 3 step drop quick pass. We keep blitzing taking men out of coverage even though they don't have a chance of getting to the QB. Finally get 1 sack on a scramble late in the game.

Also, NCState spread their DE's out wide to stop Reggie from running on the boot and it worked like a charm.

Bad Reggie comes back alive throwing 2 pics one for a TD and special teams underwhelm no covering kicks (95 yard TD). Even Brooks had an below average night punting the ball.

But a win is a win. One more to Jville.

Almost doesn't count in this sport. How effective was the NCSU offense? Well they got 9 points. No TDs for their offense. They got 14 points from our special teams and our offense. So maybe, just maybe, our defense didn't play that badly.

As for our offense... Reggie certainly had some very shaky moments (and strung a bunch of those moments in a row). But when the chips were really down they came up with the plays we needed.

Like you said, a win is a win but I'll go one further than that. This is exactly what the good teams do. They win games even when they clearly didn't play their best.

What a complete ninny comment. Did you even watch the game? Outcoached? 7 points on a punt return and another 10 off our QB throwing lame duck passes. Christ what a stupid comment. Amazes me how little our fans know.

Agreed. I think all of our mistakes were players not getting the job done. I really saw no problem with x's and o's. RB didn't play well tonight. He got the job done. Injured? I just saw too many plays with him running backwards in the pocket.
It is nice to play poorly at QB position and still pull out a good win to pretty much solidify Jacksonville.

Ball made some bad decisions...but he also threw for FOUR TD's!!!

Our 'd' gave up some plays...but gave up ZERO TD's!!!

Relax man...a win is a win.

Wouldn't giving up points and massive yardage on kick returns actually qualify at this point in the season as a coaching fault - maybe just a teeny, tiny bit SINCE IT CAN BE REASONABLY ASSUMED THE COACHES WORK ON IT and simply fail to get it right time and time and time again. Yeah, I can see wherein someone would say, at least in some areas of the game, we were outcoached. BTW, Christ might be a Tech fan, so the stupid comment...but even if she is, all will be forgiven with a win.

Reggie didn't have nearly as terrible a night as people are acting like. He made a couple of poor decisions. That's not "Bad" Reggie. You don't hear people in South Bend screaming "Bad Brady is back!" everytime Quinn lobs a pick.

We had our miscues, but on the whole we had a good gameplan and executed it well. North Carolina State capitalized on our two biggest slip-ups - an interception and breakdown in kick-off coverage - which allowed them to keep it close until the end.

All things considered, I'm dubbing it a good win in a dangerous situation that puts us one step closer to our goal.

I think if you lose the game, you point to the 2 picks. But we won, so we have to point to those 4 TD's.

I think you can throw the outcome out, look at what Reggie did and say that he did enough to more than nullify the two picks. That's his job, to lead this team to victory. He had his setbacks, and he made up for them, then added more positives. Not statistically explosive, but he had a good game in my book.

It just seemed like Reggie made bad reads on the two interceptions. The first one looked like it was right on the money to Cox, but the NC State DB read his eyes or something and cut in front of it.

Please, bad Reggie doesn't throw 4 TDs. How many times in his first three years did he throw a pass like the second TD to Calvin tonight? I can only think of the long bomb to IIRC Nate Curry in the Champs Sports Bowl.

How were we outcoached? The O scored 6 points basically. We gave them an INT return and our STs gave up one (you can put that on ST coaching if you like), plus another INT return set up 3. Sure they kept us from sacking the QB with their 3 step drops but the point is to score not get the pass off.

Of O we seemed to move the ball very consistently. In fact, the only offensive problem I heard was Reggie's inaccuracy.

Why is it we all talk about it being a trap game, and how talented State is, but then when we win a tight game we talk about how the coaches let us down? This is exactly the kind of game everyone was expecting, right?

Uh, no I didn't see the game Mo, read my post again. I was merely relaying what our radio commentators were saying. They wondered why we weren't making adjustments on D.

Reggie Ball looked like a different QB in the second half. 1st half Reggie was a solid QB, second half Reggie could have lost the game for us.

He did a good job late in the game of getting his head straight and getting the ball to Calvin.

The 2nd pick everyone in Coach's Corner (the bar) new Reggie would throw the pick because he was staring down Calvin the entire route.

Woops my bad. Well then, I'll say that our announcers didn't see the game I did. Our Defense held them to 6 points. Only problem our Defense had was the bend don't break mentality gave NCST some good yardage. Also, NCST picked up our blitz exceptionally well alnight and that is the only area I didn't see adjustments. The secondary made constant adjustments as to coverage.

I'm sorry but look at the title of your post..................the word "almost" sums it all up. I am tired of this type of fan reaction.....I am just as critical of players and the team as anyone but WE WON!!!!!!!!"Almost?" There are alot of things in life that ALMOST happen. "ALMOST?" Well they lost -we won!!! I think that is pretty simple!

No all of you PC types have gotten on here bashing me because I didn't post a resounding "everything is good" post and you apparently mistake me for some of the Chan bashers, which I am not. Take a deep breath.

It amazes me also how much our fans think they know.

No, It's A Depth Problem

It's a depth problem, which we are shallow on the assets we can spend on special teams coverage and return teams.

One sign of depth problems is when you look great one week and horrible the next. We totally outplayed VPI in all special teams phases. Last night, we had a rough special teams night.

Trust me, one and all, Amato did not outcoach Gailey in any phase.

ramblinwise1, you took a game we won and started your post on a negative premise. If you expect people to respond to you with warm and fuzzies then you are fooling yourself. Understand that you reap what you sow. And if you open things up with a negative you're probably going to get negative responses.

Give me a Brady Quinn throwing to Calvin Johnson and you won't hear anybody around here saying "Bad Brady".
