We are a better team than last time

Here's our rushing totals against Venables. Last 4, 3, 2 years we are averaging ~22, ~19, ~14 points per game.
2013: 248 yards vs. 299 ypg (-17%)
2014: 251 yards vs. 342ypg (-26%)
2015: 71 yards vs. 256ypg (-72%)
2016: 95 yards vs. 258ypg (-63%)

I'm not saying it is impossible that we run all over Clemson. I'm just saying Venables has typically played CPJ's offense very well. I'd speculate he probably the best performance against CPJ among DCs CPJ has faced during his time at GT. My guess? Defense will need to keep Clemson's offense to 17 to win this game.

Venable is a good DC, but I think he gets way too much credit for having "figured out the option." Our execution was terrible last year. Just look at our first play. The B-back is slow so the mesh is late and gets blown up. If the b-back is on time the play goes for 10+ yards instead of a loss of yards instead of a loss of 9. Nothing special about the defense on that play.

I know it's old news, but we really are a a couple plays away from this being a matchup between top 10's. Dabo pointed out as much. We're rightful underdogs, but I see no reason not to give us a fighting chance. I do have concerns about the weather, though.

We are literally 2 plays or 4 points from that yes.

We'll do better than last year on offense because it'd be hard to do worse. Almost every play in the first half had multiple missed blocks and failed.

Interesting stat:
Bryant has thrown 4 TD passes with 4 INTs
Marshall has thrown 5 TD passes with 0 INTs

Marshall's not a bad passer but he's gotten lucky to not have any INTs. At least two of his throws against Wake should've been picks. He did throw a pick against someone but got bailed with a PI call.

JT was definitely a more accurate passer, but he got better year to year. Unfortunately due to mistaken RS burning we only have TaQuon for one more.

We are going to win.
Did you rewatch 2016 before you posted this? We have the same dudes blocking (or not) as last year, minus Freddie Burden and Andrew Marshall... Clemson has had two weeks to prep and their DL is still monstrous.

I guess this is "we are going to win" in the irrationally overconfident biased fan sense.

We are overdue to make one play and win by one point this season. Maybe this is the game. Bryant's ankle is not 100%, so we might be able to limit their running game. Looks like Brad Morgan will be back this week to give us more depth on the OL. I'm hoping that their week off and looking ahead to NCS will turn out to be a good opportunity to catch Clemson on an off night.

Oh wait, Brad Morgan is back, we got this!!! :dunno:

...yeah but they aren’t ready for our vaunted passing attack. That A back seam round is going to be money.
