We do not have any really exciting OOC games for the next 4 years

Besides UGA of course...

These last few years playing Auburn and ND have been great, unfortunately we won't experience that for at least another 4 years.

Every year we are going to have
8 conference games
1 UGA game
1 d1aa game

That leaves 2 OOC we can schedule each year against d1a teams.

Who do we have to fill those roles in the next 4 years?

2008
Army
Miss. State

2009
Miss. State
Vandy

2010
Middle Tennessee
Ole Miss

2011
Middle Tennessee
Ole Miss

While I don't mind so much playing SEC schools, playing Miss state just doesn't bring the excitement level of playing a Tennessee or even a South Carolina. I don't know of whether it is the AA wanting to win or just difficulty in scheduling good teams. I'm sure there are a few schools that just don't want to play anyone that has a good chance of beating them.

I thought, however, that we were playing Alabama in 2012?

No complaints here. This is how you win a national championship. Don't beat yourself up out of conference; making it through your conference schedule unscathed is tough enough. UGA is enough OOC for me.

These are excellent OOC games in my mind.

The middle tennessee is a 2 for one I hope. And it is driveable for us hardcore fans. 2 for 1 against a team that should provide some test is excellent.

The miss schools are beatable and excellent road trips and we have recruited in mississippi decently in the past. I have been to most SEC stadiums and I feel Ole Miss is the finest gameday experience in the SEC.

We will get full, totally overrated, credit for any SEC road win. The home wins if the team stinks won't count as much. But UGA got ridiculous credit for a razor thin win a home against a pretty bad Colorado team with jet lag.

You really don't know what you're talking about if trips to West Point or the Grove (Ole Miss) don't excite you. Nashville is fun, too, although the football atmosphere isn't the greatest. I can't really think of anything nice to say about Starkville....oh wait, you get more cowbell there.

Off topic, but am I the only one who didn't find the "More Cowbell" skit funny at all?

I had an ex-gf at Ole Miss. And I've been to the grove more times than I can count. And personally I would rather have the option of moving during my tailgate then standing shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of spoiled rich kids who wouldn't survive without mommy and daddy's money.

Just my .02

I'm fine with playing Ole Miss & Miss State. GT is 2-1 against the Rebels -haven't played 'em since '71. Have only faced Miss State twice --in '08 & '29, with a 2-0 mark.

Both schools joined the SEC at it's inception in '33, as did GT, so I will say that, although I knew the Jackets had faced neither team very often, I was surprised that GT has only faced these schools a combined 5 times.

As for Army, --only faced them 3 times --won in '52, lost in '71 and got revenge in '73.

Since the BCS took SOS out of the formula, there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to play ANYONE REMOTELY GOOD out of conference. I'm happy we have pansies, they'll give us more wins, less injuries, pad stats, etc.

BCS didn't take SOS out of the formula. They took out margin of victory.

I can't wait for the road trip to Army next season. A weekend in NYC, maybe taking a boat up the Hudson to West Point, to see that campus.....should bee an awesome weekend.

It's still a part of the computer rankings...

but the computer rankings play an inconsequential role and also weigh SOS very little.

1) Back to the point....playing the service academies is exciting and has long been a part of GT history and tradition.
2) Playing UGA each year is pretty darn exciting. Disappointing much of the time...but exciting nonetheless.
3) Any SEC opponent is nice....MissSt, Ole Miss, Vandy, etc. Heck...the SEC claims they are all dominant teams that beat each other up...and "they get scared before any SEC game". So...lets see what the Mississippi schools bring. Vandy makes since...nice to play the only academic school in the SEC.

....and have you looked at our out-of-division schedule for 2008 and 2009!!!!????
2008: Clemson, FSU, Boston College!!!!
2009: Clemson, FSU, Wake Forest!!!

We have our hands full the next two years.

1. Go to mall
2. Find Victoria's Secret
3. Go in dressing room
4. Man card turn-in is usually in the far back.

You must not have watched Jimmy Fallon...just watching him makes me crack up!

***GASP***

I think I'd find Christopher Walken funny if he were just reading the newspaper. Can't explain it.

Count me as one that doesn't like these schedules at all. I don't care if they're an SEC opponent...it's still Ole Miss and Miss State. Both of them suck. Unless either they pick it up by the time we play them and become respectable, or maybe we drop down a bit where it would be nice to have a few winnable games (wouldn't that be a bad attitude to think is going to happen?), that's the only way it seems worth it to me. It doesn't matter that they're in the SEC if they're the two worst teams in that conference. All we'll hear is how we beat the "two worst teams", etc. And if we lose any of those games? We just lost to one of the worst SEC teams.

Let's face it...the ACC is terrible this year. In the conference races, we're literally fighting it out with the Mountain West to be the 6th best conference right now, so having at least one more win against a respectable opponent would be nice. We're not going to have many in the ACC because there aren't many respectable teams in our conference right now.

Duke = might be worst team in 1-A
Virginia = awful
UNC = terrible
Miami = horrible
Maryland = pathetic
NC State = LOL
Wake = respectable, but not great
Florida State = not good
VPI = not impressed at all
Boston College = solid, but prob barely a top 25 team
Clemson = potential to be very good

So, we've got only 2 other teams in our entire conference that are solid top 25 teams. IF we happen to go undefeated this year (yeah, I know, pipe dream at this point...someone will prob jump up and bite us, but I'm not counting it out based on the above), I'm not going to be surprised at all if a 1 loss team from another conference got in the BCS game ahead of us. It sure would be nice to have another win against a decent out of conference opponent to point to.
