Week 2 Polls Thread

It does not take a computer to know that VT beat the öööö out of OSU. How some of these media douche bags can justify earning a pay check is beyond me. Paul Johnson is right polls should not even begin until mid season.

Go Jackets!

Coaches poll ranked Ohio State over VT. Media didn't.

Remember when this coaches poll actually had an effect on things? Good times.....

Still does (just not the MNC). Ranked teams get front page coverage on ESPN, get listed on the ticket with the Top 25, and get better TV stations / time slots.

Meanwhile, GT's is the only ACC team not to get a game recap on ESPN's ACC blog, is 10th in the ACC power rankings, isn't even mentioned on upcoming games, and the only mentions of the game where GT nearly doubled the spread against an American conference opponent was about the shaky defense or that GT had to "come from behind".

Under the radar may be a good thing. Maybe we'll end up being the feel good story this year when we surprise the naysayers.

Sagarin is out, and still settling in. It also has Ohio State ahead of VT in the "Rating", but not the ELO_CHESS ('cause VT won).

It has us at #51 with a strength of schedule of #152. We'd be underdogs against North Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson, Duke, Syracuse, Miami, VT, Michigan, Maryland, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, Arizona State, and North Dakota State. No reason for us to be getting any top 25 votes this week, or next week, even if be beat Georgia Southern by 80. We're just not playing well so far, or playing anyone worth playing.

... with more games broadcast online instead of on TV

Can't trust Sagarin this early. Gets accurate around week 5.

Same thing for the human polls--maybe they're worse. I still don't think we've shown enough to get a top 25 vote, especially since ending last season at 0-2.

Human polls and computer polls are both influenced by the initial seed rankings to start. The difference is that computers are designed for the seed to have a negligible impact by week 4-6, whereas humans never get over the initial seed (“I just try to look and see who was on the last one and who won and who lost...")

Should he? We have hardly looked like a top 25 team so far considering the competition and lack of blowout power we have exhibited thus far. Let's see if we can get past Ga Southern and VPI, if so then maybe we will get a vote or two

Consider this: Nebraska, UNC, and Kansas State are all ranked.

Consider, also, this: Cincinnati hasn't played a single second of football this season. In preseason, they had 6 votes. In week 2, they had 7 votes. In week 3, they had 8 votes. They are still 0-0 (0-0 conference) with a 0 in every statistical category. Except votes. Where they have 8.

Finally, consider the following: Boise has a vote.

The prosecution rests.
