What do the numbers to the right of the names mean?
 
Per their website


On every play, a PFF analyst will grade each player on a scale of -2 to +2 according to what he did on the play.

At one end of the scale you have a catastrophic game-ending interception or pick-six from a quarterback, and at the other a perfect deep bomb into a tight window in a critical game situation, with the middle of that scale being 0-graded, or ‘expected’ plays that are neither positive nor negative.


From there, the grades are normalized to better account for game situation; this ranges from where a player lined up to the dropback depth of the quarterback or the length of time he had the ball in his hand and everything in between. They are finally converted to a 0-100 scale and appear in our Player Grades tool.
 
So we have a freshman linebacker playing that well? It does not matter to me that the opponent was FCS - I read the stat to mean that he basically didn't screw up at all. When is the last time we had a defender playing at that kind of level much less a freshman.

That leaves me with more questions. They're describing a huge task, to watch all 22 players on every play every week and make an individualized appraisal of their actions. Are they really investing in the kind of knowledgeable manpower it would take to do that right? That's like an entire coaching staff's job.

And the appraisal is severely handicapped not know what the player was *supposed* to be doing. Sure, a great catch is obvious. But when one of our AB's runs across the field and does nothing... how do they know if he ran the right route or if he totally screwed up?

Moreover, how are the scores normalized? And how are they converted from a -2 to +2 scale to a 0-100 scale? Inquiring minds want to know.

But hey, even empty praise is welcome when it comes to our youthful defense. I should stop looking a gift horse in the mouth.
 
The article I found was for the NFL but I assume it would be basically the same for college but I could be wrong. For the NFL, it also said
"Each game is also graded by a second PFF analyst independent of the first, and those grades are compared by a third, Senior Analyst, who rules on any differences between the two. These grades are verified by the Pro Coach Network, a group of former and current NFL coaches with over 700 combined years of NFL coaching experience, to get them as accurate as they can be."

It seems like alot of work and you can buy the info for $9.95/month but I'm not sure why any fan would need that much info.

Like mentioned above, regardless of how they arrived at the grade, it is good to see Tech represented. Esp a true freshman who i think is going to be a special player for us.
