What can be done to speed up replay reviews?

These things are killing the joy of watching a game. They now have officiating consultants in the booth to discuss in great depth the rules, the play and review every angle over and over again. I don't think the Zapruder film got as many looks as some these plays. For God's sake make an expedient decision and move on quickly so we can get on with the game and our lives.

How can this sh*t be fixed?

I think they should just get rid of replay. Even after they review the crap out of most close call plays, it still feels like they get it right half the time. Just go back to old school call it on the field and move on. Even worse when you are at a live game, have to deal with the 5 minute tv timeouts and also deal with reviews. No wonder game attendance is slowly dying.

Y’all are so whiny women. Are y’all 15 years old or something and don’t remember the egregious homer calls that cost millions before replay? Who cares if it takes 5 minutes if it means getting the easy calls correct. Sure, they’ll still miss some close ones but the entire sport was illegitimate before replay when refs could simply say the receiver was out of bounds when he wasn’t or when the ball was knocked loose when he was already down. Yeah, I want to see more UGA 99 yard “fumble“ recoveries in Bobby Dodd because of SEC refs.

Why do they use those mini screens on the sideline? Why don't they have a 70 inch or larger HD screen on the sideline for the refs?

If the call had no impact on the game don't review it. There are times when the offense doesn't get a call, they rush to the line to catch the defense napping, and the officials then blow the play dead for 5 minutes for a review. The team that could benefit clearly didn't want a review so don't review!

I think they are a necessary pain in the ass. But there are too many reviews, there are too many rules that lead to too many reviews and they take too long. What can be done to make them less of a pain in the ass?

I'm not saying do away with them, I'm saying they suck and there should be ways to make them suck less. Any ideas?

Give each team 1-2 reviews per half. If the on field call is confirmed you lose the review. If it stands/overturned you keep the review.

Sports like tennis used to do this before the entire judging system was automated and it worked really well.

Why not make the call in the booth and just ring the judgement down to the field? Way too much drama. And while we're at it let's amend the idiotic targeting penalty. 15 yd penalty, ejection for obviously egregious personal fouls. Done.

Spot on! Implement it. This would likely cut the drama and the review time in half or even more.

The answer is to switch to the NFL's challenge system. Outside of the last two minutes of each half, it's up to the coaches to decide if they want to challenge. That way, they won't challenge inconsequential plays, or plays where it's obvious that the call won't be overturned.

This is the answer. The standard of having to have sufficient evidence to overturn a call on the field means most aren't. If it's egregious, let a HC challenge. There aren't more than 1-2 per team in that category anyway. OTOH, they'll look at a second down score for 5 minutes and say "Nope," but the team now has 2 more shots from the 2" line. It's a useless waste of time most of the time. Just give each HC 2 challenges per game.

If not the NFL system, give them 60 seconds from the end of the play to make a decision. If they can’t decide in that time, play stands, move on.

Review should be less than :30 seconds.

Either the call on the field is wrong beyond a reasonable doubt - and obvious from the fist look - or the call stands. You’d shouldn't have to look at it 100 times to decide.

I just want to go back to “if the ball hits the ground, it is incomplete”. So much easier to call.

My idea is to get the call correct. If it takes 4.5 hours to get a fair game then so be it. I’ve never had a problem with short delays to get it right. I still remember wrong calls from the 80’s that cost my team games so I dang sure don’t mind taking a little extra time each game. We only get 12-14 games a year so what’s the rush. And for games I’m watching at home it’s more time to pee and less time to do the honey do list. A win win win.

Do away with them.
