What happened to the Joe thread?

FWIW, CPJ wasn't too upset with Errin Joe about it in the post game comments. He said he thought it should have been offsetting penalties because they kept going at Justin while he was on the ground and Joe was just defending his QB.
The thing is that they weren't hitting JT. They were childishly swiping at the ball, something that happens all the time.

If Joe had just come in and grabbed the guy, or given a controlled push, it would have been fine. The problem is he came in and actually hit the guy. You can't do that...maybe it's not fair, but I don't think there's any refs for which that wouldn't be fifteen yards.

Any video of the play? I could see nothing from my seats.

Request seconded for the same reason. I didn't know anything about what actually happened until I was outside the perimeter and I still haven't seen it. It'd be nice to see exactly what I'm so pissed off about.

It was stupidity. CPJ would not have been so apologetic about Joe if CPJ had seen it clearly.

JT goes down with a VT player on top of him. Ref is standing three feet from JT, waving his arms and blowing his whistle to stop the play. VT player rips the ball out of JT's hands and it flies away, as happens all the time in football. Joe comes from like four steps away and shoves the VT player so hard he flies like four yards away. Does it right in front of the ref.

Pure stupidity.

I can take getting beat because their players are better than our players. But last night, our team was good enough to win. They weren't great, they made mistakes, and they often got beat, but as a team they were good enough to win. And then a single player's stupidity öööö the game out.

So basically it was just as bad as Attaochu, just with a shove instead of a punch. Jesus.

Worse, I think. At least the VT QB had the ball and it's possible Attaouchu thought the play was still going or something. Here, Joe just hit a dude after the play out of anger.

This. It was completely unnecessary. Attaochu did something stupid while he was all jacked up and frustrated trying to bring down a 6'6", 250 lbs QB who was holding the football. Joe just shoved a dude after the play.

So, one could surmise that our 18-year bowl streak was ended by our own senior offensive lineman.

I'm not at all excusing what Joe did, but the post-whistle stuff (pulling people off the pile, doing that silly stuff you described, etc.) was supposed to be a point of emphasis this year.

So, I agree with CPJ. Either make it offsetting or let it go. It was a push - not a punch. I can't remember. Did the guy even fall down?

I don't remember it being a push. I thought he came in and hit the guy with his shoulder. I think if it was just a push we would have been fine. Could be remembering wrong, though.

Ya, I lost track after trying to put my Comcast remote back to together after I launched it into my basement wall.

It was worse than Attaochu because it wasn't just a momentum swing, it was literally one single play that literally eliminated the scoring chance to win the game.

It was only better than Attaochu in that I didn't have $1000 riding on the outcome of the game.

Nah dude, the VT guy flew like four yards.

I kind of like one of our goons taking up for his QB. Beats the hell out of the lack of response when Godhigh got suplexed in COFH. Dumb because it got us a penalty in a crucial game moment, but I like how our team is out there playing for each other.

We would have still lost even if Joe doesn't make that mistake. And it would have been worse. Something like Snoddy blocking himself into Marcus Allen to cause a fumble or a botched snap on a chip shot fieldgoal. Or a kickoff return for a touchdown. Oh wait...

I'm still not mad at him about it. It wasn't "childish swiping" at the ball by the VPI guy. He was viciously ripping it out of JTs arms clearly after the whistle and while on the ground. Refs were right there and did nothing about it. Joe did. I would've too. And probably nut-punched him.

This is more accurate than bj's rendition.
