What is it about this year that makes us feel as though we have a better chance of beating F$U now than ever?

I think there are a number of reasons. FSU is simply not the team they were a few years ago. Defensively, they've had a lot of breakdowns in the secondary. Offensively, they've been inconsistent. McPherson looked pretty good against Wake but did have some shaky moments. Also, per ESPN, Greg Jones is out for the year. Maddox is a fine runner but he doesn't wear down the defense like Jones does. If Tech can stop the run like they have the last 2 games and confuse McPherson with some imaginative blitzes, they can hold FSU's scoring down. That gives Tech a great chance to win.

I agree with all of that %100, but it seems like there's a certain feeling running through Tech fans like this is the year.

Some of it is the mystique of an unbeatable team. Now that FSU had a less than great year in 2001 and is having a less than great year in 2002, their confidence is less and opponents confidence has risen.

This means a great deal in sports.

I hate my feeling right now for this game. On paper we should beat them and coming off the last two weeks' performances I think we should be favored. However, our run against them since 1992 is abysmal. It is almost as bad as the Dawgs against the Gators. My fear is if not this year, will we ever? It is like we are jinxed are something.

Wrecked, I like our chances but don't see how you can say on paper we should beat them. They area favored, they have plenty of talent, they have one of the better rushing offenses in the country and they are still FSU (albeit down some). Like I said, I think we have a great chance to break the string, but our odds are less than 50/50.

They may have one of the better rushing offenses in the country, but they lost their best rusher, so it mortalizes them a bit.

To borrow the logic from a friend of mine (thanks Chris): There are two alternatives for this game.

1) The Jackets don't have a prayer in this game because they have lost every single game against the criminoles since fsu joined the ACC.

2) The Jackets are due for a win because they have lost every single game against the criminoles since fsu joined the ACC.

Lets pull for the second alternative.
