What is our strongest position?...

From Top to Bottom:

Linebacker
Special Teams
Wide Receiver/TE
Defensive Line
Offensive Backfield
Secondary
Offensive Line

The starting O-line is top notch and would rank much higher but obviously the depth is a major concern. OTs have to stay healthy and McHargue must be ready to play. Our backup OTs have to make a major move this summer, because I don't believe they are ready to contribute after the spring.

I've seen our secondary rated very high but I'm somewhat concerened. Unlike most, I feel good about the corners but I'm very concerened about the Safety situation. Primarily our range, athletic ability and depth.

I see the strongest position as quarterback. We have two outstanding candidates vying for the starting position.

Camp is a typical drop back passer with pretty good accuracy. I think he is a strong player and would not easily be pressured by the job. He is a very good candidate when you are considering three deep.

We have several outstanding candidates at other positions that could be brought back as a quarterback if injuries depleted the position. Logan and Landry would make good option quarterbacks. They also have a fair amount of talent in the passing game.

I agree with Ahso that the QB position is strong. I really just like our LB's. They can all run and get after it. Smith is a stud if he's healthy.

Axe, you seem to be worried about our OL depth. I'm worried about that as well, but we do have some guys that were dominating at times last year (The Pepper Crusher and such). On the other hand, we don't have a single proven RB. If I amended my subject title to include "talent and/or depth and/or experience"...would that change your views any?

Bugboy,

Like I said, if we were just talking about starters, I would rate our OLine very high. I think Tidwell-Neal, Honeycutt, & Hartley should be solid backups for the interior line positions. Dorsey and Wallace are both very good OTs, but the situation behind them is a big big worry. IMHO, our backup OTs are not ready to play Division I-A football. Hopefully, Zeb can come in and be at the type of level Wallace was a year ago. Fingers crossed!

Axe,

From watching this spring I'd have to agree with you.

I will say that we are in better shape up front than we were last year at this point from what I can see.

The injuries have hit us at OL. Like you, I was really impressed with Andy Tidwell Neal. What we can't tell yet is how much players will improve over two-a-days this fall. Normally see more improvement then than during the spring.

Last year I had major concerns with the trenches. Think we're in better shape on both sides of the line, but we need to stay healty I think.

Strongest position - Head Freakin' Coach.

This is the only position we have where we will have an individual who has experience winning at the next (and arguably highest) level of his profession.

GO JACKETS!!!

Good one aiken. I needed a good laugh.
Thanks.

I couldn't resist - the Joltin Jackets aren't getting it done, so I needed to laugh, too!

GO JACKETS!!

I think my list would be:

Linebacker - Linebackers are studs.

Wide Receiver/TE - We have Smith, Watkins, Glover, Curry, Thomas and the two freshman at WR with Heller, Foschi and Lee at TE. Wow!

Special Teams - We have Manget/Morehouse/Dyke/Rhino back.

QBs - I think Suggs will be fine. He played well as a freshman at UT. Bilbo is an awesome athlete. Not knowing how Godsey would turn out at the time, I feel much better now than I did when Joe H left.

Offensive Line - Offensive line starters are very good. Only rated this low for unproven depth.

Secondary - I like our safeties and Hester. The other CB position is a bit of a concern to me.

Defensive Line - We lost N. Rogers and although the DTs played well in spots, they need more consistency. We have lots of potential with Hargrove and Holiday also.

Runningbacks - RBs have lots of potential but haven't done much in game situations. Ford and Hatch have the most experience and could be real good. Dixon can play. Hollings may turn out to be another C.J. Williams. Problem is - there are lots of "shoulds" and "coulds" at this position!!

I also think our head coach and coordinators are strengths of the team. Spencer is a known quantity and was awesome at West Ga. The others...I don't really know enough to comment one way or the other. I can only assume at this point that they will get the job done.
