what is your opinion?

Even if some of the (older) alumni at the stadium do not cheer (every play, 3rd down, etc.), they are still the ones cutting the vast majority of the checks to the school and the AA.

So the support is there. Just because they did not start drinking at 8 am like you did does not make them less of a fan. Both types are needed.
yeah totally, I am one of the crazy cheering kind, but I also know I am not the one footing the CPJ and fire_Gailey bills.

I love them and say we need more of them... as long as they cheer!

A true Tech man bust be a graduate of the Institute. (Sorry, Bobby Dodd, you're out!)

A true Tech man must represent the Institute with class and dignity at all times. (Sorry, Joe Hamilton, you're out!)

A true Tech man must cheer at the appropriate times and at an appropriate volume, and must know what is appropriate without asking. (Sorry.... err... me.)

A true Tech man must wear the proper color and must support the wearing of football uniforms that are the proper color and must know without asking what the proper color is. (Sorry at least 75% of fans, you're out!)

A true Tech fan must never drink Pepsi.

A true Tech fan must drink whiskey before games but must never act like he has. (You know who you are.)

A true Tech fan must have mixed feelings about Bill Curry. (Sorry, Bill Curry, you're out!)

etc.

True Tech fans think B*** ****ing L**** is the worst imaginable vulgarity in the English language.

I went to my first Ga Tech game in 1970 with my Dad - a Ga Tech grad. Went to just about every game until I went away to college in 1984. At one point, we had gone 8 years without missing a single game - home or away - which included great trips to New Orleans to play Tulane. I graduated from a diploma factory - Auburn, but I still cheer harder and keep up with Ga Tech football more than I do Auburn. Seems okay to me.

My life long experience mirrors yours almost exactly, only I went to Georgia Southern instead. Plus, a couple of my high school football teammates played on Tech's national chamionship team. I'm still a GT season ticket holder and always will be 'til I die.

I welcome and embrace all Tech fans. However, there is a different perspective that is achieved by persevering and graduating from tech. This is the perspective that we view the Institute as a whole and the bond that exists between everyone that "got out". There is pride in the academic accomplishment and can lead us to feel superior and act cocky. We enjoy being different and don't want to be a football factory even if it somehow made our falls more enjoyable. We want success in football and athletics but not at the expense of the Institutes integrity or reputation. All fans are on the same side with the same goal when we are cheering in the stands, but I have noticed some differences in other situations.

One interesting thing I have noticed through the years is that this ideology that sets Tech alumni apart from some Tech fans, is absent with graduates from many state schools (i.e. ugag, f$u, etc). When they think of their school they think of football first, the good times/partying they did second, and their education third. As a Tech grad, I place the importance of the education above the other two, though they are/were both great.

To Hell With Georgia!
Go Jackets!

GT needs non-alum to fill the stadium, much like any school. Tennessee has a huge stadium and most folks I know that go to their games aren't alumni.

Some of us non-alumni are lifetime fans with family connections going back generations. I graduated from Wake Forest and have a masters degree from UGA, but I have never cheered for Wake over Tech, even when Wake was in a powerhouse basketball year. As for the bulldogs, I used to go to the games in Athens, just to cheer for their opponents.

I am one i mean right now i see all Tech Alum as greater people. Soon when I go to Tech i will prob think of being cocky

By the way, a lot of old timers who have no affiliation with Tech have grown up huge fans of Tech, because Bobby Dodd was the hottest thing in Atlanta. I think CPJ can bring that reputation back to Tech.

I am one of those who you described.

I didnt go undergrad at Tech but went here for grad school. I was a diehard tech fan while going to school in Durham and spending my weekends in Chapel Hill. My brother is a non-alum but is a diehard Tech fan. He has more knowledge and is more passionate about the teams AND the institute than many alums I have met at tailgate and games.

I am probably one of the few exceptions to this rule. I grew up a lifelong Tech fan and graduated from Tech. I love the teams and hate the school. There is no way I want my kids attending Tech for the reasons pointed out on this board. Most of us (amd I did say us) are prideful, cocky and arrogant. I would prefer that my kids matriculate in a more well rounded environment that still produces fine graduates. That said, if my kids want to go to uga (sorry, I can not capitalize their initials) they had better get a freaking job because my money will NOT be spent in athens.

If my son or daughter ever wanted to attend UGA, then I wouldn't have a song or daughter.

But if your kids turn out to be cocky and arrogant they will fit right in right!?

More often then not, if you are smart and talented you will exhibit some level of arrogance and cockiness. Ill take that to being unsuccessful and stupid!

I've never met an engineer who isn't cocky. It doesn't matter what school they attended. In fact, I don't think I've ever met a doctor or lawyer who wasn't cocky either.

Which begs the question: what university or occupation is known for producing people with great humility?

Uh...right down the road? U[sic]GA?

Oh wait, you said humility, not humiliation. Never mind.
