what is your opinion?

The reason I did ask was because a lot of Tech fans on this board use "I bet they didn't go to [insert college name here(but mainly UGA)]" when talking about other fans. As a non alum statements like these don't really feel welcoming and I'm sure could turn other potential fans away since we didn't attend Tech and aren't good enough.

There are elitists and snobs and assholes everywhere. Don't let one bother you just because that person happens to be a Tech grad.

Yep, it's a double standard, and a lot of Tech people probably feel that way about the Tech fanbase as well, but they'll forgive it on the surface because, well, we're all Tech fans. But there will always be a wall between the alumni and non-alumni, not only because alumni feel like they are a PART of the Tech organization and representing Tech in their field of work, but also because going to Tech is such a unique experience compared to most football schools.

Sure, a U[sic]GA sidewalk fan fits right in: "Yeah man, i remember college, I got so drunk! Party on!" Just because he didn't do it at U[sic]GA doesn't mean he didn't go through the same experience as the U[sic]GA alumni. Not many people from KSU or GSU are going: "Yeah man, I used to average an all nighter a week and the professor still failed me!"

Also because if we only let "Tech men" in we'd have about 25k people for each game.

Personally, I see no problem with this - in moderation. It shows pride in the school you received your degree from. Keep in mind that phrase is usually used to describe the uga fans who are overly unruly, obnoxious, and extra-special rednecky (yes, I made that up). In other words, anyone disgracing the named school deserves to be treated that way.

My experience: I was a junior jacket club member and have been going to games since the mid-80's. I have a bunch of friends who went to Tech, but engineering was not my future. I've been to every home game and a few away for 4 years running. I usually have some beers and speak to alum and non-alum friends before every home game.

I have seen this attitude from some alums over the years, but it's mostly current students. Most of which, never saw a Tech game before they enrolled.
Tech is the only school I know of, that fans always ask you how you're connected to the university. Like you can't cheer for Tech without having gone there, or being related to an alum.
I'll echo an earlier post. Many of these "Tech Men" were nowhere to be found during the mid-90's and magically reappeared in 1998. I hate bandwagoners, alum or no alum.

As far as I'm concerned, a Tech fan who didn't actually attend the school is someone who has made a conscious (and intelligent too!) decision as well as a committment.

I think that we can use all the fans we can get and I welcome anyone who has made this obviously excellent choice!
