what is your real expectation,

71, I don't think there is much doubt about your statement. A coach that has played for a school will be the most likely candidate to remain faithful to the school when the green is waved in front of them.

Of course, it is not absolute, but the odds are better.

Bellyseries, he is one, but he was not going anywhere. He was just using the old game to make his employers sit up and take notice.

I don't think Steve Spurrier would have left Florida for another college even if they offered him more. I am sure he probably had other offers of more money. Of course the money the pros offered him helped him leave the college game plus I do believe he wanted to see if he could win at the pro level.

I don't believe Groh will leave Virginia if he is successful there.

Some coaches fall in love with a school and town and remain loyal even though they did not attend there. Bobby Dodd was told by a Texas oil man, he would make him a millionaire if he would leave Tech and coach Texas. He remained at Tech where he never made more than $35,000 a year.

Joe Paterno has had many offers at other schools and refused to leave. Penn State became part of him. There is loyalty, but it is rarer today than the earlier years.

Ahsoisee,

Bobby Dodd, Joe Paterno; the stability of coaches of their generation is a thing of the past. Most now will follow the green. And it doesn't take more than a couple of upside years before the money comes to visit.

Bobby Dodd never had a contract now contracts mean nothing.

I honestly hope that the players and coaching staff aren't sharing the views of those expecting 50% or worse.

If you expect to be mediocre, that's exactly what you'll be.

Alot of you seem awful content to lose to UGAg on a semiannual basis. Since when is it okay to lose to the dawgs? We all need to wipe the blood from our noses and yell "To HELL with Georgia!!!," like our daddys used to do.

71, you are wrong. It is proven by the general population.

In your account of this issue, all people are corrupt, and there are no people left on the earth that are not corrupt.

All individuals left on this planet follow the green stuff, thus there are no coaches anywhere that could possibly be loyal.

I state emphatically, there are many individuals left on this planet that do not follow the almighty dollar. Among these many individuals are some coaches.

I cede to you the fact, there are less of them than there were in earlier days, but there are some loyal coaches still in the game.

I reread your post and saw that you said most, so you are not wrong. However, I will let my post stand as it is a testimony to the fact there are still some loyal coaches around.

Still pondering some of the other coaches in the games at colleges. Roy Williams turned down North Carolina because of the loyalty to his players he had recruited at Kansas.

I wonder if Coach "K" has been offered more money to leave Duke?

Although, I do not like Bobby Knight because of a few reasons, I doubt he would have left Indiana for more money at another school. He had to be run off from there.

I doubt the Maryland basketball coach would leave if he was offered more money elsewhere.

Of course, I can't prove all of these examples, but some are reasonable assumptions.

bdg, it's not a can't afford issue, it's the not willing part that's the obstacle. THWG

Ahso,

If you are the head coach at Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Indiana what is the next step up? Maybe a pro team but not a college program.

In my mind, a step up for coaches isn't just the money. The package includes the things that go with it; fan base, program stature, visibility, potential championship shot, facilities, location, etc.

In Football, I believe Tech can afford to pay the salary but will still be a tier II school for reasons above.

I would hope we could win 40% of the football matchups with the dawgs. I would obviously shoot higher, but cold operations analysis tells me that 40% is a pretty stiff goal already given the differences in our situations...
