He is a lock to play B back this year. But with AA being able to play next year i wonder if we might then move him to A back.

Dwyer will be our B-back next 3 years.
He is proto-type size and talent.

I wouldnt be surprised if Allen plays both positions.

I think Dwyer at A-back and AA at full-back would be more productive in 09. We will have Drummond as well, ranked #5 fullback by scout.com, but probably will redshirt.

Johnson's B-backs at navy were a little bigger around 240 pounds.

I'm pretty sure Drummond mentioned something about going defense because we were already stacked at B-back.

How big was the best B-Back to ever play under CPJ, Adrian Peterson? I'd venture he wasn't more than 215, and Dwyer is more like 225

I am no expert on Navy or CPJ. I was working off these:
Kyle Eckel, started 2003-5 at fullback, around 235 pounds, led the team rushing.

Adam Ballard, started behind Eckel 2005, and 2006 himself. 237 pounds, led the team rushing.

Eric Kettani, played in 2007, 243 pounds, led the team rushing.

With his speed, he could play either one. I suppose the answer truly lies in how the other B-backs do. AA, QK, RW and LC may can hold the fort, letting Roddy and Jon play A-back. Jon will get more carries at B-back, though.

B-backs are going to lead the team in rushing, they are the feature back in this offense.

I do think that there is something to this. I wouldn't even be surprised to see Dwyer playing some of his snaps at B and some at A.

I believe that one of the advantages that PJ discovered with this offense is that it allows HUGE running backs to get shots at the linebackers and secondary and this serves to wear them down and bang them up. I don't know if he realized that when he first started the offense or if he discovered it later at Navy when he had more Escalades than Maybachs. Or it is very possible that he realized that but Peterson was just so awesome that losing that facet was worth it.

I don't think Dwyer is ideal for beating up the defenders like Eckel was. Therefore I predict that if PJ finds a guy at 240 with wheels he will play a lot of downs at B Back. Allen could very much be that guy.

It is my opinion that Dwyer is too dangerous of a weapon to keep off the field AND that he has the potential to be a devastating blocker out of the A back slot. Therefore assuming we find a punisher to play some downs at B Back for 2009, I would use Dwyer as the backup for him (1/3 to 1/2 of the B back snaps) and as an A Back 1/3 to 1/2 of the snaps.

Honestly can't believe this is even a question. He's the perfect B-back for Coach Johnson's system.

Then why does coach seem to be recruiting bigger guys? Or am I missing something?

Dwyer is not just fast but he runs with power. He weighs around 228/230... that's plenty enough to punish LBs.

Cause they're interested? He's recruiting power running backs with speed. Dwyer may get moved, but to me he doesn't have the shiftiness of a pure A back. But then neither of us really has a clue because the secret to this is in PJ's head.

If Anderson is as good as he seems to be CPJ will find a way to get both of them on the field. Too much talent sounds like a good problem to have.
