Where are all the Nay Sayers ????

Where are all the skeptics that said the triple option will never work ? and Johnson never passes ?? Go run and hide in your little holes, nay sayers !!!

GT Football is BACK !!!! :laugher:

I'm here. After our first team left, we played Jax State about even. I don't see many teams on our schedule letting us get up 27 before we substitute. Our depth may develop since many of those down the depth chart are youngsters. Kicking is a real worry--missed two FG's and a PAT and kickoffs were short--but covered well for the most part. How good is Jax? I don't know, but on several series they stuffed us--our starting team--in the red zone. We left 14 or 17 points on the field first half.
The good news is we are off to a winning start. And many players played. The boys look excited and look like they are having fun. We probably didn't show all our cards last night, so BC might get a new wrinkle or two. I saw nothing though that makes me think we can win more than the four or five games I predicted.

Did you watch the game? We ran triple option about 10% of the time and our starting quaterback was 5 for 12 passing.

Sounds like someone is in a hole alright.

Uh...we ran the triple option a lot more than 10% of the game. You do realize that the outside pitch is just one of the options, right?

Jonathan Dwyer post game quote:

"We ran it (the triple option) only about six or seven times. That surprised us. That's our bread and butter play. That's what this offense is all about."

Clearly I stand corrected. Odd.

not odd, smart

why would PJ show BC are real TO blocking schemes when he doesnt have to? were were able to beat them badly w/o revealing much about this

i think that some of the concern about the line may be this exact thing. its like we are were practicing all BUT the TO plays and since those are what we have worked on most, the line was not as comfortable with these plays. anyway just a theory

let everyone think what we are doing, going to do and then show up and do WHAT WE WANT

For a first game with a NEW offense, we looked very good. That said, CPJ knows there's plenty of work to do before we're at the top of the league.

Also, this is not the JSU of 2002. This team is projected to win the OVC (is that the conf?). They also have an all-world QB and a stellar RB. That said, they're not a D-1 level team.

FCS (1-AA) teams like Jax St can have outstanding players comparable to FBS teams. Over the years I have witnessed very competitive contests for two or three quarters. FBS teams have more depth and usually pull away late in the games.

Last nights game was interesting in that we scored more points in the first half against a very good FCS school. I don't know but CPJ probably played more second and third stringers in the second half to get some good film on those guys playing live games. If CPJ did play many backups this tells me our first team looks pretty strong and the score could have been much higher if desired.

Completely agree. Overall JSU did not have D-1 talent. Most of the first string was talented, but there was nothing after that.

I'm not a naysayer.
I'm excited about the possibilities in this offense, in which the triple option is only one of the plays.

Anyway, beating JSU only means we don't suck.
Don't get me wrong, I think we are going to win at least 7 games, and hopefully more, but we beat ND by more last year.

Again, beating JSU doesn't prove anything.
OTOH,it is a lot better than losing :D
